Introduction

The 2022 Grand Cherokee is a midsize sport utility vehicle from Jeep. It offers a remarkable blend of capability, performance, and functional luxury. The Grand Cherokee, a longtime favorite in the midsize segment, is brilliant as a well-equipped daily driver and shines as an off-road champion. Ultimately, 2022 was an eventful year for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Remaining inventory of the outgoing “WK2” generation was sold alongside an all-new “WL” generation, both for the 2022 model year. Since most of the CPO models you find will be from the newer generation, that’s the one we’re focusing on here. Jeep debuted a 3-row version called the Grand Cherokee L in 2021, which we cover as a separate model.

KBB Review Highlights

The 2022 redesign of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was its first in a little over a decade, making it a great model year to shop for on the CPO market. Its significant makeover was more than just an aesthetic refresh. In addition to a modernized look inside and out, the new-for-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a new chassis, thoroughly updated technology, and luxurious options that make it more competitive with pricier luxury SUVs. The new generation remained about the same size as its predecessor, with generous room for passengers and cargo. A few features we love about the 2022 Grand Cherokee include: the Selec-Terrain traction management system with drive modes for any situation; the feature-rich and user-friendly Uconnect 5 infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay; and the sublime McIntosh 19-speaker audio system that’s one of the best car audio systems we’ve ever tested. From a practical family SUV in the lower trims to a bona fide luxury SUV in the top trims, there’s something for everyone in the Grand Cherokee model range.

Engine options for the 2022 Grand Cherokee include a trusty V6, which makes the most sense for most buyers, and a Hemi V8, which was discontinued in the 2-row Grand Cherokee in 2023. If you want the latest generation of the Grand Cherokee with a V8 and two rows of seats, 2022 is the only model year with that configuration available. A plug-in hybrid option dubbed the Grand Cherokee 4xe was also introduced in 2022. Naturally, being a Jeep, multiple 4-wheel-drive (4WD) systems are available, giving the Grand Cherokee varying degrees of off-road capability. Quadra-Trac I is suitable for snowy roads and mild off-roading. Quadra-Trac II adds a 2-speed transfer case with low-range gearing, and Quadra-Drive II delivers superior off-road capability with an electronic limited-slip differential and the ability to send 100% of the engine’s torque to a single wheel.
