Enthusiasts of the Boomer generation no doubt have memories of custom-painted C2 Corvettes that were ubiquitous in the car magazines of the 1970s.
One of the first memories of Corvettes that I have is a second-generation Sting Ray that had been custom-painted and was featured in a magazine, along with a bombshell blonde standing beside it.
Perhaps this 1965 Corvette convertible, described as being a 1970s show car back in the day, was one of those cars so featured.

Now, though, this once-fabulous one-of-a-kind Sting Ray needs some TLC to restore its grandeur. It’s being offered for $27,000 on Craigslist in a small town southwest of Dallas, Texas for someone willing to take on the challenge.
The car is described as a “great project” to resto-mod or restore and comes with a “good” title, always a concern with vehicles this old.
The body, which features custom fender flares and a ’67 nose with mounted headlights and a cut-out hood, seems to be in straight shape. A duckbill rear spoiler has been added, and it appears that fuel is added to the car through a spout on the rear quarter panel on the driver’s side instead of the usual center rear. The only way to stay dry in this car is with the use of the hardtop as the canvas top under the deck lid is said to be missing.

It may sound crazy to some, but we think this car as it sits might be a good candidate to just clear-coat the faded 1970s custom gold and brown paint and show off its vintage patina. We dig the aftermarket Cragar wheels and the Cooper Cobra white letter tires.
The 327 engine, which is hooked to a four-speed manual transmission, is said to have been running when it was parked, but the seller admits now it “has been sitting for a long time” and the carburetor is missing.

The tufted button black interior, meanwhile, looks “really good,” he says, and just needs carpet and some other minor TLC on items like the paint-worn console to recover its appeal.
If you bought this vintage Sting Ray, what direction would you take it?
