Fresh off the ’78 Indy Pace Car edition, the 1979 Corvette was one hot automobile – at least on the sales floor where the all-time record of 53,807 was established.
Performance-wise, however, the ’79s weren’t very special, though at the time they were still among the fastest vehicles Detroit could produce.
This one-owner Black-over-Oyster example currently being offered on eBay has more than the usual factors going for it, though.

First and foremost, it has the more powerful V8 engine under the hood, the optional L82 that added $565 to the base price of $10,220.23 and with its 225 horsepower delivered 30 more than the base L48.
This one also has the advantage of being mated to a four-speed manual transmission, which was considered a sales drawback for decades until Chevy took away that option with the introduction of the mid-engine C8 in 2020 and now it seems everybody is pining away for a manual. Only 4,062 manuals were ordered in ’79, despite the fact that customers had the choice of automatic or manual with no change in the price.

Other pluses for this car include its odometer reading of 57,759 miles that is said to be accurate by the seller – who explains that it had been parked in a climate-controlled building in the Texas Hill Country for the past 32 years, with the last registration being 1993 – and the “no-reserve” nature of the auction that comes to a close on Monday with the highest offer so far peaking out at $10,100.
Coming with the original Code 19 Black paint and Code 122 Oyster leather interior that seem to be in good condition (though the paint is obscured by the layer of dust), this Corvette – now located in Raymond, Mississippi – also has a ton of features like power windows, power door locks, rear window defogger, air conditioning, removable glass roof panels, sport mirrors, front and rear spoilers, tilt-telescopic steering column, aluminum wheels, AM/FM/Cassette Stereo with dual rear speakers, and convenience group.

We have come to appreciate the look that the add-on spoilers give to a ’79, as opposed to the integrated spoilers that debuted the next year. Would you like to park this vintage C3 in your garage?
