Classic cars, championship legends, roaring V8s and a community that knows its motorsport – indeed, Classic Nostalgia 2025 had it all. Shelsley Walsh, the world’s oldest motorsport venue still in continuous use, once again became the stage for a weekend that stirred the soul and thrilled the senses.
Held on 19-20 July, this year’s 14th edition of Classic Nostalgia delivered more than just great racing. It was a living tribute to motorsport history, mixing big-name cars and personalities with an electric crowd atmosphere – despite the occasional downpour.
Colin McRae Remembered – 30 Years On

One of the most moving highlights was the emotional tribute to Colin McRae, marking three decades since his 1995 World Rally Championship title win. Fans were treated to the sight and sound of the legendary Subaru Impreza 555 BAT storming up the hill. This was the very car McRae drove to victory on the RAC Rally – a true icon of rallying. Classic Nostalgia highlighted this splendid moment.
A special Q&A brought together members of his Prodrive team, including David Lapworth and Alan McGuinness, alongside Colin’s father Jimmy McRae. Hosted by commentator Toby Moody, the session struck a perfect balance of nostalgia and insight. One lucky fan even secured a passenger ride in McRae’s 1996 Rallye Catalunya-winning Impreza – all to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
75 Years of Formula 1 – A Paddock Full of History

Celebrating 75 years since the inaugural Formula 1 World Championship, the Shelsley paddock hosted an incredible line-up of F1 cars. Visitors could get up close with machinery spanning eras, from the elegant Surtees TS7 – John Surtees’ first F1 car – to Michael Schumacher’s former Benetton B192.
Also on show:
- The Shadow DN9B, once raced by Clay Regazzoni and Elio de Angelis
- The Netuar-Peugeot, notable as Peugeot’s first rear-engined F1 car
Each took to the hill for demonstration runs, filling the valley with historic horsepower, reviving classic nostalgia.
NASCAR Roars into Shelsley

Bringing a slice of American noise and drama, a fleet of NASCAR V8s made their presence known in spectacular fashion. From ex-Kevin Harvick Chevrolets to race-winning Craftsman trucks, they tore up the hill with sideways flair and thunderous soundtracks.
These purpose-built brutes turned heads and rattled eardrums, offering a high-octane contrast to the European elegance elsewhere on show, embodying classic nostalgia.
Icons of Endurance and Rare Racers Take the Hill

Shelsley’s rich racing tapestry included some serious machinery:
- TWR Jaguar XJ-S (1984) – Driven by Mike Gallery, this Group A hero was loaned by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust.
- Dolomite Sprint – Stuart Graham returned in the iconic Andy Rouse-liveried car, celebrating 50 years since its racing debut.
- Javelin JL5 Formula Ford 1600 – Famously driven by a young Nigel Mansell to his first victory.
- Toyota Celica GT (1978) – Mike Wilds was reunited with his original-liveried “HOB” car – a star of the British Saloon Car Championship.
Each car brought its own chapter of motorsport heritage to life, enhancing the sense of classic nostalgia.
Honouring Motorsport Legend Joy Rainey

Shelsley also honoured Joy Rainey, who held the Ladies’ Record on the hill for over two decades. The perpetual trophy, returned to the MAC in 2021, was awarded this year to Amanda George Rainey. Driving a Chevron B19, she earned Fastest Lady honours, receiving the award from Le Mans winner Richard Attwood.
It was a proud moment that celebrated both heritage and future talent, a true example of classic nostalgia.
Cars, Culture, and Community

Beyond the hill climb action, Classic Nostalgia 2025 delivered a packed weekend of classic car culture. The Classic & Sports Car Concours on Sunday brought together stunning pre-1985 classics. Judged by industry veterans Simon Taylor and Arron McKay, it was as competitive as the racing.
Winners included:
- Best in Show: Doug Martin’s elegant 1939 Lancia Aprilia Special Berlina
- Judge’s Choice: A standout 1954 Vauxhall Cresta
- Best Visiting Club Display: The Jaguar E-Type Club, recognised by Iconic Auctioneers
There were also:
- Lively car club displays
- Live music throughout the weekend
- A flypast from a vintage Spitfire, which received a rousing cheer from the crowds
Looking Ahead to 2026

With overwhelming support from fans and glowing feedback, plans are already underway for the 2026 edition. Classic Nostalgia returns on 18-19 July 2026 – and promises to be even bigger.
In the meantime, organisers are calling on fans to support the event’s shortlisting for the Visit Worcestershire Festival and Event of the Year award. It’s a proud moment for the Midlands Automobile Club, celebrating 120 years of motorsport at The Hill.
