Chevy Sends Out a Software Update Notification for C8s Which Requires a Visit to the Dealership

One of the advantages of using GM’s Global-B electrical architecture in the new C8 Corvette has been the ability for the car to handle large amounts of data as various sensors send info back and forth to multiple control modules. Combined with your Corvette’s wireless hotspot, that same system also allows your Corvettes to receive large data software updates over-the-air so that your car can easily stay updated with the latest changes from Detroit.

While some owners might say these over-the-air updates are one of the best things to happen to the Corvette, others who have encountered issues over the years while trying to update their Corvettes might not be so sure. Hopefully, this next update from Chevrolet will resolve those problems.

Chevrolet issued a Technical Service Bulletin for this update back in July, saying that “The BCM software in certain cars may be preventing over-the-air (OTA) updates from progressing past the install step.” This week, users on the forums and Facebook have recently been posted screenshots of the new software update available for their C8 Corvettes, which requires a trip to the dealership. Chevy says in the notice that, “This update will provide software improvements and optimize your vehicle for future over-the-air updates.”

The reason for this dealership visit is that this update specifically targets the OTA Update system. The new update will be flashed to your Corvette, and the software update should help fix those issues where the battery may drain while the update is being installed. If the battery drain is too much, the update won’t be completed and it could lead to other issues on restart of the vehicle. With the update done at the dealership, the service techs will reprogram the BCM software, and GM says the process should take less than an hour.

We call this a fix for future fixes, which is a good thing so make sure you get that dealership appointment set. If you have already taken your C8 Corvette to the dealership for this update, chime in below with your experience.
