The Chevrolet Silverado won the Best Large Dual-Cab Ute under $150K in this year’s Drive Car of the Year awards. Here’s everything you need to know about this full-size pick-up truck.
The Chevrolet Silverado was crowned the Best Large Dual-Cab Ute under $150K for its exceptionally efficient and refined drivetrain, value for money and cabin comfort and technology which sets the standard for the segment.
The Chevrolet Silverado has been a solid success for the brand, ranking as its highest-selling model last year and already showing strong performance this year with 370 Silverados sold so far this year.
While the segment is led by its stablemate, the RAM 1500, with 436 sales, the Silverado keeps pace with the newly-introduced Ford F-150 (385) and is well ahead of the highly-anticipated Toyota Tundra (138).
Like what you see? Here’s everything you need to know to buy the Chevrolet Silverado that is right for you!
How much is the Chevrolet Silverado?
There are just two variants in total of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in Australia – the LTZ Premium and ZR2, although there is also another version of the model sold known as the 2500 HD which comes just in LTZ Premium form.
The range starts at $130,500 for the 6.2-litre petrol V8 all-wheel-drive Silverado. At the top of the line-up, the ZR2 using the same engine has a price tag of $138,000. Both prices exclude on-road costs.
All variants were eligible for this category’s price cap.
The entry-level Chevrolet Silverado comes with features such as a 13.4-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a colour head-up display, a ‘bed view’ camera, adaptive cruise control, and 20-inch silver alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres, to name a few.
The Chevrolet Silverado is supported by Chevrolet’s three-year, 100,000-kilometre warranty.

What colours is it available in?
There are eight colour choices available for the full-size pick-up. For the LTZ Premium there is a choice of Dark Ash Metallic, Sterling Grey Metallic, Summit White, Black, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, Radiant Red Tintcoat, Lakeshore Blue Metallic, Glacier Blue.
All except Summit White cost extra.
Which variant do we recommend?
The Drive judges recommend the Chevrolet Silverado LTZ premium, which starts at $130,500 plus on-roads. This model uses a 6.2-litre petrol V8 engine (313kW/624Nm) with four-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
With plenty of change in your pocket, we recommend adding a few options, including Lakeshore Blue Metallic paint ($1250), a tri-fold tonneau ($2350), cargo net ($190), cargo ring set of four ($210), hood deflector ($330), silver tailgate letters ($290), front flat mud guards ($210), chrome side steps ($1310), console organiser ($135), and a 50mm tow ball kit ($310).
That brings the total cost to $137,085 before on-road costs.
What is the best deal on a Chevrolet Silverado?
There are currently 57 General Motors Special Vehicles (GMSV) dealers across Australia.
Stock levels are healthy across the country, and GMSV has told Drive that it has stock available for immediate delivery – though depending on the colour chosen there could be a wait time of up to three months.
GMSV doesn’t currently have any national offers on the Silverado, but individual dealerships may have their own so it’s best to speak to your preferred dealer to find the best deal for you.
You can find plenty of new and used Chevrolet vehicles available now from dealers around Australia on Drive Marketplace.
