Chevrolet is charging into the future of motorsports in a big way. For the first time ever, an all-electric vehicle will pace the legendary Daytona 500, and it’s none other than the high-performance 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS. Set to lead the field to green at the 67th running of “The Great American Race” on February 16, 2025, the Blazer EV SS marks a new era for both Chevrolet and NASCAR.
The Quickest SS Ever
The 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS isn’t just a stylish EV—it’s a powerhouse. Boasting 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, the Blazer EV SS features Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode, allowing it to rocket from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. That makes it the quickest SS model Chevrolet has ever produced.
While the pace car itself will feature custom graphics and embedded strobe lighting, it remains mechanically identical to the production model, demonstrating the real-world performance potential of Chevrolet’s electric future.
“We’re excited for customers to watch the Blazer EV SS — the quickest SS we’ve ever produced — pace such an iconic race this weekend,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet.
Beyond its straight-line speed, the Blazer EV SS is built for performance with front Brembo brakes, a sport-tuned chassis, and an advanced Super Cruise driver assistance system for hands-free driving. Inside, it boasts a best-in-class 17.7-inch touchscreen and an EPA-estimated 303-mile range, proving that electrification doesn’t mean sacrificing capability.
Chevrolet’s Racing Legacy Lives On
While this marks the first time a Blazer has ever paced the Daytona 500, it’s far from Chevrolet’s first appearance as the pace car. The automaker has now led the field 16 times, continuing a legacy that dates back decades.
“We’re honored to have Chevrolet as a founding partner of Daytona International Speedway,” said Frank Kelleher, president of DIS. “The Blazer EV SS is surely going to set the pace for another exciting race.”
A Weekend Full of Bowtie Performance
Chevrolet won’t just be making history with the Blazer EV SS—it will also be unveiling an exciting new Blazer EV.R NASCAR Prototype. Developed in collaboration with NASCAR and OEM partners, the prototype aims to explore the future of motorsports and emerging automotive technologies.
But the electric revolution won’t overshadow Chevrolet’s continued dominance in traditional NASCAR series. The brand will be at the forefront of all three major NASCAR races at Daytona, pacing each one:
- Corvette Stingray will lead the Xfinity Series United Rentals 300 on February 15.
- Chevrolet Silverado RST will pace the Craftsman Truck Series Fresh From Florida 250 on February 14.
“Chevrolet is extremely proud to be a part of NASCAR’s season openers by pacing all of the events this year at the famed World Center of Racing,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president – GM Performance & Motorsports.
Chevrolet’s Winning Pedigree at Daytona
Chevrolet is no stranger to success at Daytona International Speedway. The manufacturer swept all three NASCAR Manufacturers’ Championships in 2024 for the second consecutive year. Over the years, Chevrolet has amassed 102 NASCAR victories at Daytona and an impressive 26 Daytona 500 wins—more than any other manufacturer.
With defending Daytona 500 champion William Byron behind the wheel of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, the Bowtie brand is looking to add yet another win to its historic record.
See the Future of Performance at Daytona
For fans attending Speedweeks, Chevrolet will have a strong presence at Daytona International Speedway, displaying the Blazer EV SS, Blazer EV.R, Corvette Stingray, and Silverado RST at various locations around the track.
The 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS is set to go on sale later this quarter, bringing cutting-edge electric performance to the streets. But before that, it will lead some of the world’s best drivers to the green flag at the biggest stock car race of the year—proving that the future of performance isn’t just electric, it’s electrifying.
