Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery Malaysia) has held its ground breaking ceremony for the upcoming Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park, which will be situated in the Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley in Hulu Selangor, which will be developed by Legenda Beringin Holding.

The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is part of the Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley which is an 800-acre development that will be constructed in phases, and the former is aimed at completion in 2026. The agreement was signed by Chery International president Zhang Gui Bing and developer Legenda Beringin chairman Chia Song Kooi, witnessed by Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah.

Earmarked with an area of 200 acres, the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is expected to initially have a production capacity of 100,000 vehicles a year, with room to upscale to 300,000 vehicles annually, according to Chery Malaysia.

The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park will be developed at a cost of RM2.2 billion over a period of five years, and the remaining land area will be for other developments in supply chain, vocational training, automotive innovation and technological advancement, the manufacturer said.

“Chery is proud to be an integral part of this visionary development, where we will establish state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, integrate cutting-edge smart technologies, and produce an extensive range of vehicles,” Chery International president Zhang Gui Bing said.

We are confident that once completed it will create high-value job opportunities, house a cutting-edge R&D centre, expand vehicle exports to neighbouring countries, strengthen Selangor’s role through a robust supply chain, and solidify Malaysia’s position as a leading automotive hub in ASEAN,” he added.

At present, Chery Malaysia operates its Shah Alam assembly plant which was opened in April 2024, where the Jaecoo J7 is produced for local and export consumption. This is in addition to the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah where the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro are assembled.
