Chery’s luxury Exeed brand has launched the range-extender version of the Exlantix ET EV SUV (called the Sterra ET in China). Chinese buyers can have Max (RMB240k, RM147k), Ultra (RMB270k, RM165k) or Premium (RMB290k, RM178k) variants.
Besides what looks like some subtle extra chrome bits in the fog lamp housings, it’s pretty much Exlantix ET – full-width front LED strip and tail lamps, roof lidar, flush door handles. It’s a big car – length, width and height are respectively 4,955 mm, 1,975 mm and 1,698 mm, making it a bit larger than the Omoda C9 and Tiggo 9. The distance between the front and rear 20-inch multi-spoke wheels is 3,000 mm.
The Exlantix ET EREV has what the company calls Snow Leopard AWD, which comprises a 154 hp/220 Nm 1.5 litre turbo range-extender engine, a front 201 hp/310 Nm motor, a rear 261 hp/324 Nm motor and a 41.16 kWh battery from Gotion High-tech. The century sprint time is 4.8 seconds, top speed is 195 km/h and the CLTC ranges are 1,500 km and 240 km (EV only). Its 400V architecture yields a 20-80% charging time of 17.5 minutes.
It’s also the first vehicle to be fitted with Chery’s Falcon Smart Driving system, which uses 30 sensors and dual Nvidia Orin-X chips, covering high-speed navigation, city navigation and smart parking functions.
The very-minimalist interior features a steering wheel that’s very squashed in shape. It needs to be like that because the driver has to look above the wheel rather than through it to see the 10.25-inch floating instrument panel, Peugeot i-Cockpit style. The 15.6-inch floating centre touchscreen is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295P and the new Exeed OS.
Elsewhere, there’s a smart electric glove box, Lion AI voice command, 23 speakers, 256-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof with power sunshade, and front-seat heating, ventilation and massage. Chery Malaysia said two years ago that the Exlantix ET EV was being considered for CKD in Malaysia in 2025 – will it happen?
