The finale of Bugatti’s W16 era has officially begun.
It was over 20 years ago when Bugatti sent shockwaves through the entire automotive world by introducing its quad-turbocharged, 8.0-liter W16 engine, which powered the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 towards is revolutionary performance and record-breaking top speed. However, that was just the beginning of a decades-long legend, in which the Bugatti W16 would go on to power not only one but two generations of revolutionary hypercars, all of which showcased impeccable performance, daring innovation, and sumptuous exclusivity.
In recent years, the Bugatti Chiron has been retired, and Bugatti’s other exclusive W16-powered models have been making their way into collections to properly sen doff the W16 era. However, the true grand finale of the Bugatti W16 is the W16 Mistral, which features the pinnacle W16 engine with nearly 1,600 horsepower along with an open top and a radcal design.
With incredibly luxurious touches like the use of woven leather and the iconic Rembrandt Bugatti elephant emblem, the Mistral combines rich tradition and artisan craftsmanship with futuristic engineering and design, with the body and features like the X-shaped taillight assembly purpose-built for optimized performance even without a roof.
Only 99 examples of the Mistral will be made, making it one of Bugatti’s most cherished collector-grade masterpieces, and the crown jewel of a legendary era of automotive excellence. The first examples of the Mistral are now leaving the Bugatti Atelier in Molsheim, France, marking the end of the 10-year era of performance domination, and making the way for Bugatti’s new Tourbillon and its hybrid V16 powertrain to take its place.
The first two examples are destined for US-based owners. The first is in black carbon with light blue accents, with a blue leather interior, while the other embodies the other end of the spectrum of color, with a striking white exterior with blue and red accents, as well as an interior that echoes the same colors. With the first two examples rolling off the assembly line, the grand finale of Bugatti’s W16 has begun.
