The Bovensiepen family, of Alpina fame has enjoyed a cooperation agreement through the decades with BMW, upon which Alpina’s cars are based. That cooperation agreement terminates at the end of this year, as the BMW Group had announced in 2022 that it had acquired the Buchloe-based outfit, and thus secured the rights to the Alpina brand.
The founding family of the Alpina continues its automotive pursuits with its own company of the same name, and this is its first project – the Bovensiepen Zagato.
A grand tourer coupé taking the basis of the G82-generation BMW M4, measuring 4,943 mm long, 1,913 mm wide and 1,394 mm tall, weighing 1,875 kg (DIN). For comparison, the G82 M4 CS measures 4,801 mm long, 1,918 mm wide and 1,399 mm tall with a 2,857 mm wheelbase, weighing 1,760 kg (DIN).
For powertrain, the Zagato is powered by a 3.0 litre inline-six-cylinder engine that outputs 611 hp and 700 Nm of torque, enabling the 0-100 km/h run to be performed in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of over 300 km/h.
Bovensiepen says that each Zagato will take more than 250 hours to build, and production of the model will be limited, though it firm did not specify a number. The exterior bodywork of the Zagato are made “almost entirely” of carbon-fibre, and certain design elements from the G82 BMW M4 can be seen, such as the headlamp DRLs and the tail lamp elements.
Rolling stock is a set of 20-inch forged aluminium wheels, featuring cutouts in each spoke which contribute to significant weight savings, says Bovensiepen. Suspension equipment features dampers from Bilstein which have been developed specifically for the Zagato, and offer three modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus.
Meanwhile, the exhaust system on the Bovensiepen Zagato has also been developed specifically for the car by Akrapovic, weighing just 22 kg in its entirety and thus 40% lighter than conventional exhaust systems, says Bovensiepen.
The cabin of the Bovensiepen Zagato can be specified with a choice of full Lavalina leather, from a selection of 16 colours as standard, while the leather upholstery may also be combined with Alcantara, available in 45 colours. Buyers can also specify “any desired colours” through the Bovensiepen Bespoke programme.
Pricing and production numbers for the Bovensiepen Zagato will be released in the fourth quarter of this year, and the start of deliveries for customer units is planned for the second quarter of 2026, says Bovensiepen.
