BMW has crafted the perfect farewell for its Gran Coupe 8 Series with the new 2026 M850i Edition M Heritage. This limited run of just 500 cars globally embraces a touch of nostalgia that feels both purposeful and sincere.
Only available as the sleek four-door Gran Coupe, each example wears one of five classic colors that debuted on the original E31 8 Series at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show. Bright Red, Mauritius Blue metallic, Cosmos Black metallic, Oxford Green metallic, and Daytona Violet metallic make a striking return. These BMW Individual paints add a genuine vintage vibe that plays a big role in the car’s overall appeal.
Each Edition M Heritage model also gets a carbon-fiber roof trimmed with subtle M tri-color stripes, 20-inch Style 859M wheels in Orbit Grey, and the M Sport Professional and Extended Shadowline packages. It’s a complete look that mixes classic charm with modern aggression.
Inside, BMW delivers a cabin that feels special from every angle. Black Individual Merino leather and Alcantara come in a diamond-stitch pattern, accented with tri-color stitching on the seats, seatbelts, and trim panels. The center console is finished in matte carbon fiber, topped with a glass shift lever and iDrive controller. Unique badges reading “M850i Edition M Heritage” and “1/500” on the cupholder lid and doorsills complete the collector vibe.
The powertrain remains unchanged from the standard M850i, which means a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. The car still launches from zero to sixty in just under four seconds and delivers confident grip through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.
BMW has kept the configuration simple. Every Edition M Heritage comes fully loaded with the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, full driver assistance features, and premium materials throughout. The only real decision is which color to pick.
Pricing starts at $130,400 before destination fees. That positions it around $20,000 above a base M850i Gran Coupe but still about $10,000 less than an M8 Competition. Production is scheduled to begin in November 2025, with U.S. deliveries expected in early 2026.
This car is not just a tribute. It’s a confident and well-executed reminder of what made the 8 Series special in the first place. For enthusiasts and collectors, it’s a final chapter that respects the legacy while fully embracing the present.
