From a young age, Blima Ehrentreu saw the world through the lens of design. What others passed by unnoticed, she viewed with wonder—color, space, form, flow. There was never a question of “what will you be?”—she always knew. Design wasn’t just her passion; it was her purpose. That sense of clarity led her to pursue formal education in the field she adored. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from George Brown College and followed it with a master’s degree in Interior Architecture and Design from the prestigious Academy of Art University. With this solid foundation, she dove into the industry, starting her career at an architectural firm where she learned the mechanics behind the magic—technical drawing, space planning, and the intricate dance between structure and creativity. But Blima wanted more than to follow someone else’s blueprint. She dreamed of creating her own. In 2011, she took a bold leap and launched The Designers Group (TDG) in Toronto. It was a brave move, but she was armed with experience, vision, and a belief that great design could transform lives. The Toronto studio quickly gained traction, earning a reputation for elegant, thoughtful spaces across residential, healthcare, hospitality, and commercial sectors. Never one to settle, Blima set her sights on international expansion. In 2016, she brought TDG to the heart of one of the world’s most competitive design markets—New York City. Establishing a new office in a bustling metropolis without an existing network was no small feat. The city’s fast pace, complex building codes, and saturated design scene could have been intimidating. But Blima turned every challenge into an opportunity. That move became a turning point—not only did the company grow, but it flourished. New York became a second home for TDG, and eventually, a third location opened in the vibrant design-forward city of Miami.
Today, The Designers Group is an award-winning international interior design firm that has completed over 500 projects. With a diverse and ever-expanding portfolio, Blima continues to lead a team of visionary designers committed to pushing boundaries and redefining the built environment. Her firm was even ranked #15 on Inc. Magazine’s list of the fastest-growing private companies in the New York Metro Area in 2021—a testament to her unrelenting drive and strategic insight.
But Blima’s story is not just about growth and design. It’s also about purpose. As a proud MWBE (Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise) owner in a traditionally male-dominated commercial real estate space, she’s committed to paving the way for others—especially women. She’s built a brand that doesn’t just create beautiful spaces; it makes meaningful impact.
Her philanthropic spirit is woven deeply into TDG’s identity. Through TDG Gives Back, the firm offers pro-bono design services to nonprofits and charities. With the TDG Furniture Exchange, she created a network that connects donors with individuals and families in need of furnishings—currently operating in over eight cities across three countries. And in one of her most inspiring initiatives, TDG Insider, she invites aspiring young designers to step into her world through curated internships and mentorships, giving the next generation a hands-on, real-world glimpse into a career in design.
For Blima, success is not measured in square footage or accolades. It’s about how design can serve people, uplift communities, and open doors for others. She believes in taking smart, strategic risks—especially in creative industries—where bold ideas can set one apart. It’s this fearless spirit, combined with heart and vision, that continues to drive her forward.
