In the 1980s and 1990s lots of hot rodders like myself would buy lead additives to put in their gasoline because the valve seats in our engines weren’t hardened and would become damaged without the lead additive that was included in leaded gasoline that was available when 1960s and 1970s cars were new. At the same time, most of us also wanted some increase in octane, so the go to brands gave you both from one products. I used 104+ brand octane booster and lead additive back then and it worked great. But somewhere in the 2000s, several other octane booster products came out that didn’t really do anything for your octane or your valve seats. But in the last few years there have been companies making real improvements and some effective products have been the results, which meant that when Holley decided they were going to develop their own octane booster they knew it had to be good.
And this one is! I’ve seen the results, heard about the development, and would run this in my own car or truck if I needed a boost. This product does NOT include lead like the 104+ used to so it is legal in all states as a fuel additive. It will raise your octane level, and they include instructions on the bottle as to how many points you will get depending on what fuel you start with.
The question is, do you really need this in your ride? If it has some performance upgrades, you sure might if you are heading to the track or looking to have some fun and want the added safety that additional octane gives. But even in a stock vehicle, this NOS Octane Booster can make a difference. If you own a vehicle that is between 1 and 20 years old, it will make less power on 87 octane than it does on 91-93 when pushed hard. I know that in my experience on the chassis dyno, my late model Suburban would see knock and pull timing but if I used octane booster it would NOT see the knock and would leave the timing in, which resulted in double digit horsepower at the tire. It’s not a power gain, it’s allowing the engine to make what it should.
Here’s the new stuff from NOS, and we dig it.
Video Description:
Today’s pump gas can lack the punch needed for classic and modern high performance engines to perform at their peak. Save some money and add a little boost to your ride with help from NOS. You’ll recognize our classic blue bottle instantly and there’s no easier way to increase those pump gas octane numbers then with a bottle of NOS octane booster.
