Jeff and Skip Lee were a couple of die hard racers, family men, and hot rodders who just happened to have a sickness that made them want to take on the hugely complicated task of making a better, stronger, and faster IRS Differential Housing than anything else that was on the market. And they wanted to do it the hard way, by creating a casting that would install like the factory unit it replaced, rather than some fabricated sheet metal housing that may or may not fit and that would use a less efficient Ford 9″ center section. After all, Skip’s history as a pattern maker and designer meant he had some experience in the right places. And with Jeff’s marketing and PR skills, they figured they could start their own business and make a go of it. Plus, with their combined connections in the manufacturing world, they had a real shot of making something special.
And so Hammerhead was born. The name came from someone asking about it, and saying that the first model looked like a Hammerhead Shark. It is appropriate, and it stuck.
They built prototypes, did testing, and ultimately started making finished units that were ready for the market when the unthinkable happened and Skip passed away. It was a huge blow to the family, as you can imagine, and it set things back a bit. But Jeff knew his old man would want them to keep it going, and he had his mother to think about, so he’s kept on plugging away and has made revisions to existing models, created new models, and is now pushing even more applications forward.
In the video below, Jeff is going to go through the evolution of Hammerhead IRS and show you what the latest and greatest is. Take a look and see how you can use one in your next project. And if you want more information, or to contact Jeff for your needs, use the link below.

So in addition to selling our speed shop parts, working on some of the cars, and my day job, I’ve also been quietly handling and running things for our family business HammerHead® IRS and we’re about to launch our new 8.8 Ford based housing for C2/C3 Corvettes which we were scheduled to launch in 2020 before Dad passed. I’ve paid off all business debt for the company with parts sales and we’re in a position to move things forward.
And ultimately I see HammerHead as Dad’s legacy and a viable business. We have one more version after this and I really want to see it through and make this business successful. Something I didn’t mention in the video is that we cast these in A206 Aluminum, in Michigan, in the USA.
