F1 History: Did The 1972 Eifelland E21 3.0-litre V8 Take F1 Innovation To Far For The Early 1970’s?
Formula 1 Racing has gone through awe inspiring technological advancements over the last 75 years, and at mind boggling expense. But there is no doubt that this advancement has delivered incredible performance advancements not only in F1 cars but also other racing series and even in passenger cars. One challenge that has faced F1 officials over the years has been trying to keep spending and advancements in check and that means that there have been some times in F1 history where teams pushed the limits a bit more than the series was ready for. And sometimes teams pushed the limits for fans, and even for other components on the car. Making one aspect of the car perform beyond the limits of other parts, often led to more and more development. It’s a snowball that many teams couldn’t keep up with. It sometimes had folks asking whether a car was genius or whether the engineers were insane.
In the video below we are getting a look at an F1 car that many say was too advanced for the era, that took innovation to a level it might not have been ready for. This Goodwood Road and Racing video is beautiful, as is this Eifelland E21 being featured. Check it out below.
