Custom Gasser Feature Video: Check Out This INCREDIBLE ’55 Chevy Survivor with 65 YEARS of Family History
We love old race cars around here, not only because they are just plain cool, but also because I grew up with them. The car in this video is older than the ones I grew up with, but the same family connection exists and that’s just awesome. And speaking of awesome, you have to check out the life of this particular 1955 Chevy. The fact that it is a convertible makes it unique, but the car also has some awesome upgrades over the years and a ton of history with the previously mentioned family. Check out the complete video by Tommy Lee Byrd, aka the Hot Rod Hoarder, as he shares something special with this one.
Video Description:
This perfectly preserved ’55 Chevy survivor has so much cool history in the Snick family, dating back to 1960. Ron Snick bought the car and immediately started modifying it. He added three Deuces to the small block V8 engine, and eventually modified the engine even further with two 4-barrel carburetors. He and his wife Barbara showed the car locally, and even brought their kids along with them. Then, he got serious about drag racing, and added a roll bar, ’57 Olds rear end with 5.57 gears and a 4 speed. By 1970, the setup was getting serious with Enderle mechanical fuel injection, a Vertex magneto and an Sig Erson camshaft.
After some breakage, the car was taken out of drag racing service, and put back into some nearby car shows. It was parked around 1975. Then, in 1980, Ron’s son got the car out of storage and started drag racing it again. He made a few modifications and got it down into the 11’s. Then, it sat for a little while longer, until Todd got married in 1989. He and his wife used it to drive away from their wedding. Then, it was used in Shelley Lynn’s wedding in 1997. It has since been used in additional weddings, including Todd’s son’s wedding and used for a gender reveal burnout. This car has many milestones and special moments in the Snick family, and it’s a perfectly preserved survivor with plenty of cool details from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Enjoy the full history on this outstanding ’55 Chevy convertible.
