Paintless Dent Removal, aka PDR, is nothing new. It came about decades ago and is the savior of the automotive body repair industry in many ways. PDR can take care of insane amounts of damage and requires less equipment, less space, and usually much less cost. Without PDR, the number of hail damaged cars in the country that would be totals alone would be insane. But what about older cars? Can you use PDR to clean them up? What about a car you are about to restore? In the video below, Sleeperdude is putting his cool B body wagon through some PDR love to refresh it, and the change is amazing. This is really what a paintless dent repair makeover can do.
PDR can be used for several types of repairs, but the most common are hail damage and door dings or parking lot damage. That’s their bread and butter. But don’t think that’s all they can do, because you might be missing out.
I have told folks for years, and been backed up by many a body shop, that you should have the PDR shop take a pass at your car or truck before you take it in for a paint job at the body shop. The body shop is going to charge you buy the dent, has a higher labor rate, and will have to remove panels in some cases. Meanwhile, the PDR guy can get out a bunch of the little stuff that would have taken the body shop time to sand, fill, and finish, and that means saving money.
