AutoHunter Spotlight: 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

AutoHunter Spotlight: 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Posted on December 15, 2024 By rehan.rafique No Comments on AutoHunter Spotlight: 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Imagine having the restraint that it must take to drive a 405-horsepower, six-speed manual Corvette only about 2,000 miles over a 23-year timeframe – especially in a place like Florida, where sports cars are enjoyed year-round. The car that we are about to show you is an incredibly unique specimen of American muscle. And it can be yours, if the price is right.

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 2K-Mile 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The car is being offered by a dealer in Sarasota, Florida, and the auction will end Tuesday.

The CARFAX report shows Florida ownership since new, and by the time the car was two years old in 2004, it had racked up over 1,100 miles. Things slowed down sharply after that, and over the next 20 years, it accrued only about 800 more. While the AutoHunter listing doesn’t call out specific details around how or where the car was stored, the photographs speak for themselves, and this Electron Blue Metallic ‘Vette looks showroom-fresh.

The fifth-generation, or C5, Corvette rode on the General Motors Y-body platform and was built in Bowling Green, Kentucky, for the 1997 through 2005 model years. While already a strong performer in base form, the high-performance “Z06,” which came out in 2001, took things up a notch:

Under the hood of this low-miler, power comes from a 5.7-liter LS6 V8 mated to a T-56 six-speed manual transmission. Chevrolet rated the engine at 405 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque when it was new in 2002.

In addition to the engine upgrade, some of the other changes for the Z06 were the use of a sport-tuned suspension, larger wheels and tires, different gearing ratios and functional brake cooling ducts. A handful of weight-reduction measures also made the car about 128 pounds lighter than its contemporary counterpart. The car was built to go, stop and turn better in every way.

One of the magazine advertisements for the Z06 said, “Some will say it’s overkill: The way we’ve obsessed over making Z06 lighter and more rigid. They’ll say a titanium exhaust that shaves 17 pounds is excessive. Well, the Z06 goes 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and handles 1 G of lateral acceleration. So be sure to wave at those people as you pass them on the track.”

Perhaps you can be the lucky new owner to roll this 2002 Corvette to 2,002 miles on its odometer. And be sure to send us a picture when you do.

The auction for this 2k-Mile 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will end Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. (MST)
