Buy Australia’s only McLaren F1 and you’ll never be upstaged by something ‘better’ at a Cars and Coffee show ever again.
One of the most iconic chapters of motoring lore could be yours, with Australia’s only McLaren F1 listed for sale.
Of the 106 F1s built between 1992 and 1998, the Australian example is one of only 64 road cars.
The McLaren F1 holds a number of accolades, being the fastest production car at the time of its release, the last road-legal series production car to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the first production car with a full carbon-fibre monocoque chassis and body.
The F1 is also noteworthy for its central driving position, which places the driver in the middle of he car with a passenger seat on either side, slightly rearward.

A BMW developed 6.1-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, producing 461kW and 650N drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual.
The F1 recorded a top speed of 356km/h in 1998 (though modified versions have achieved higher), earning it the title of world’s fastest production car until beaten by the original Bugatti Veyron (408.5km/h) in 2005.
This particular F1, chassis number 009, comes with an interesting backstory too, having been shown as a display car at the 1995 Sydney International Motor Show.
The vehicle was then reportedly crashed during a routine test drive following a service at BMW Sydney.

From there, the vehicle was shipped back to McLaren’s factory in Woking, England for repair.
At that time, the car was repainted from its original Magnesium Silver to Platinum Silver, including the body and wheels, with the wheels later returned to their original colour by a subsequent owner.
The F1’s formidable reputation as being difficult to control revealed itself again in 2016, with the car losing control during a McLaren owners’ tour in New Zealand and ending up in a ditch, sustaining minor damage.

Again, repair work was carried out by McLaren.
The vehicle is listed for sale by James Edition, a seller of high-end cars, yachts, private jets, and property.
While the listing initially showed a $37,630,191 price, the ad has since been updated to ‘price on request’. One of the lowest-kilometre F1s was last sold in 2020 for just over $US20.5 million (the equivalent of $AU29 million) – setting a record at the time.
