Corvette enthusiasts were probably not especially productive in their jobs yesterday, but they certainly were busy following yesterday’s release of the 2025 Corvette Build & Buy Configurator at Chevrolet.com. We spent more than a few minutes checking out the different colors and options and finally being able to see how they might look on their dream cars.
As we worked our way through the configurator, it’s apparent that the Build and Buy tool still needs some work as many of the icons within the Options tab are simply showing the Chevy Bowtie instead of the content itself. Another thing that was found was something we originally chalked up to being an opening-day faux-pas, but it turns out that buyers got another small price increase for the 2025 Corvette Z06.
As buyers were building their dream Z06s, those configurations without the Z07’s aero package were seeing the gas guzzler fee priced at $3,000 – the same as if you were to add the High Wing aero package. Previously, the base Z06 gas guzzler fee has been $2,600 while the large aero cars were $3,000.
We went into the 2025 Z06 configurator and confirmed the gas guzzler price increase on a no-optioned 1LZ Corvette Z06 Coupe. Sure enough, it shows the new $3,000 fee:

Our friend Clayton Smith of the C8 Corvette Z06 Owners Group on Facebook asked that question about the price increase, and he got an answer from Chevrolet’s Wendy Miller who replied, “Clayton..there WAS a change this year. The gas guzzler tax is now $3000 on all models, regardless of aero.”
While it’s “only” a $400 price increase on a car that now starts at $116,795, once again, it would be nice to hear this from Chevrolet through their dealer network instead of a post on social media. And the fact that it comes out now after there have been three order cycles for 2025 is especially frustrating because there is nothing like showing up at a dealership to take delivery and finding out about a price increase then.
While Z06 owners are currently on the hook for $3,000 gas guzzler fee for the opportunity to own a fantastic sports car, it kind of makes us wonder exactly how much that fee will be when the ZR1 arrives and the ZORA after it. Whatever they will be, it won’t be cheap!
