[ACCIDENT] Video Captures the Dangers of Street Racing

Street racing is a growing problem nationwide, and a new video just captured the results of such thoughtless driving this week in a California city.

The incident involved a black Mustang and a silver C8 Corvette Stingray illegally racing in Vacaville around 8 p.m. Monday.

Coming down an off-ramp, the Mustang makes too wide of a turn and smashes into a white Nissan and a gray Honda waiting at an intersection, while in the background, the Corvette speeds away without hesitation.

“The driver of the Mustang lost control while trying to make the turn and collided with both vehicles- sending glass and plastic flying and causing significant damage,” police explained in a statement.

The 22-year-old driver of the Mustang was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail on reckless driving and street racing charges, with his car impounded for a month as well.

The driver of one of the innocent vehicles had to be transported to a hospital, with the extent of their injuries not known.

“The driver of the Mustang is very lucky that this collision didn’t result in greater injuries or a loss of life,” Lt. Chris Lechuga told KCRA. “That kind of driving has no place on our city streets, in our community or any other, and they will be subject to enforcement and their vehicle impounded if they’re found.”

Despite his quick getaway, the driver of the Corvette may not be in the clear, however, as police said in a statement that they are “still following up on information” regarding that car.

Lechuga says Vacaville police have been receiving complaints at least once a week about street racing. “’We do take these complaints seriously and we will follow up on each and every one,” he said, urging residents to speak up if they see such irresponsible driving behavior.

Vacaville Mayor John Carli says one of his goals is to “ensure public safety” in the city of more than 100,000 people, according to his website.
