I started looking at this almost 2 years ago when I bought my v40. It’s next to impossible to find a proper second hand Volvo with this in my country thats also affordable so I did a tone of research on it. I eventually tracked down a volvo specialist that would consider trying to help me on this however after a week or so we broke contact. I guess it seemed to challenging on a v40 since there was 0 preparation on it what so ever.
Going forward I started disliking the v40 as I came from a v50 that drove a lot softer and better than the v40. I eventually gave up the retrofit idea however decided to practice and see what I could accomplish. The v40 was my introduction to the D5T5 community. Not that they were much help.
Fast forward to 2 months ago I got rid of my v40 and got a 2015 XC60 T6 Drive-E. The electronics is basically the same except for it has the newer sensus connect version and a much faster response time in the Cluster and infotainment unit. It also has back and front parking sensors along with a reverse camera. The XC60 drives really soft and nice compared to anything else I have driven. I decided that since it only has 40K km on it I will keep this as a forever car until I really need to sell it or get rid of it.
I ended up retrofitting CarPlay to it thanks to a unit provided by Kreminosoft. It has a popup for the climate controls so I never use the volvo infotainment anymore.
Fast forward to today I started thinking about the ACC retrofit again. Luckily I still had some of the resources from my research. Unfortunately they are in Russian but Chrome or Edge can easily translate the whole page for you.
At the moment I’m unsure if my car has any type of preparation for this. I’m struggling to get the headlights out as it seems when the dealership took the front bumper off to fix the stone chips they put it back incorrectly so now the headlights seem to clip on the bumper preventing removal.
This post isn’t me asking on how to achieve it but rather to just have a discussion about this.
For example there might be some of you thinking this is a useless feature while others might really enjoy something like this.
For me I think it’s worth it as I travel more than 70km+ to work and then another 70km+ back. Not to mention I see clients all the time that are really far too. People in my country are known for not being thoughtful of others on the road so they tend to drive 80km/h in the passing lane or just dont keep a constant speed so this is where I thought ACC might come in handy.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
