Known for its safety and Scandinavian styling, Volvo’s SUVs are attention-grabbers. The Swedish automaker really took off after it moved from wagons to SUVs and brought its sense of simple, clean, contemporary taste to the more popular segment. The 2025 XC60 highlights some of the best aspects of that traditional look and feel.

The 2-row ute offers seating for five passengers comfortably, with an abundance of room for their possessions too. Although it’s a stylish ride, it’s not the most powerful offering in the segment. This mild hybrid is motivated by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder putting out 247 horsepower. You won’t win any street racing titles, but getting from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds isn’t bad.

You can spend your way up to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that develops 455 hp. Both powertrains come with all-wheel drive (AWD) standard and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The base 4-cylinder model gets 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. Meanwhile, the PHEV version reports 28 mpg combined and 63 MPGe combined. Let’s see what the Volvo XC60 offers inside.

Passenger Room and Comfort

With two rows and room for five, the XC60 doesn’t seem massive, but it’s a spacious cabin with plenty of head and legroom for the quintet traveling inside. The second row provides 38 inches of legroom, which puts it in line with its competition.

It also provides plenty of headroom and very comfortable seats. However, if you move up to the Ultra trim, the front seats are supportive and comfortable, but for taller drivers, the real favorite seat feature is the ability to extend the thigh bolster, which provides additional support.

Overall, it’s a refined environment designed to put driver and passengers at ease, whether on a jaunt around town or a longer trip.

Features and Tech

A serene space can certainly benefit from an occasional jolt, and the audiophile in all of us will be more than placated with the 15-speaker, 1,400-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system available in the XC60. If you don’t want to spend the cash, the Harman Kardon system is a very fine starting point.

Apple CarPlay is standard, but the Google built-in infotainment system offers a more-than-viable alternative to CarPlay or Android Auto, allowing the user to link to different apps as well as their Google account.

This SUV is also equipped with Volvo’s Intelligent Driver Information System, or IDIS, which helps drivers avoid distractions during certain situations by analyzing their driving and delaying “secondary” information during intense steering, braking, or acceleration situations.

Materials and Design

In the XC60’s base Core trim, simulated leather is standard, although a durable, soft wool fabric is available. While unusual in a vehicle, the upside is that it doesn’t retain heat or cold the way leather does, making for greater year-round comfort.

However, as you move into the upper trims, Nappa leather is available. The biggest appeal for the driver is the heated and ventilated seat with a 10-point massage function. The driftwood inlays and genuine Swedish crystal gear shifter add to the high-end look and feel.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

The XC60 offers plenty of space for people and stuff. The cargo space behind the second row is a respectable 22.4 cubic feet, and if you fold those seats flat, you get 63.3 cubic feet of space.

The second row seats are split, allowing for carrying longer objects while still bringing a third or even a fourth passenger along for the ride. However, if the object is narrow enough or not too wide, it can be fed through the pass-through behind the center armrest.
