The Rivian R1T launched what many felt would be a battle with Tesla for the hearts of electric vehicle (EV) fans. And while that rivalry hasn’t really materialized, the R1T’s been around long enough to move into its second generation.
The R1T can be ordered in several trim levels, including Dual Standard, Dual, Tri, and the new Quad Launch Edition, which was released this summer. Like many other all-electric vehicles, the R1T may be best known for its impressive power numbers. However, this is a premium truck, which means the cabin is every bit as impressive as the exterior and performance.
Let’s take a look at what the Rivian R1T offers inside.
Passenger Room and Comfort
The R1T can carry up to five passengers; however, four adults would be about perfect. It is a crew cab with the second row offering a decent amount of legroom for adults to ride comfortably, but it’s slightly smaller than its competitors.
That said, the second-row passengers aren’t just left in the cold — or the heat. Using the rear screen, they can adjust the temperature, play or pause music, and access hot spot controls.
The front seats can heat and cool their occupants, while the second-row seats can only be warmed. To ensure the driver is always comfortable, their seating position is saved as part of their driver profile. So when they get behind the wheel, their seat will be just the way they want it.

Features and Tech
The R1T is a rolling den of technology, starting with the massive 15.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. The driver gets a 12.3-inch screen for the necessary gauges and other information. However, if you’re counting on using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you’re going to be disappointed. They aren’t available. The company offers its Explore Connect+ system that allows you to create a system just for you using third-party apps, such as Apple Music, Audible, Spotify, and more — for a fee.
The R1T comes with Rivian’s 10-speaker, 600-watt audio system, developed in-house specifically for the pickup. However, you can upgrade to the Rivian Premium Audio system, which includes Dolby Atmos for a rich, clear sound.
Rivian’s advanced driver assistance technology is impressive. Dubbed Driver+, it comes standard for all models. It features forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. This impressive setup uses 11 cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to ensure all of the tech works harmoniously.

Materials and Design
Rivian’s distinctive interiors are a function of its use of organic and ethically sourced materials. The simulated leather for the seats can simply be wiped clean, plus the material is produced in a way so that no animals are harmed. Those material match the real wood accents throughout the vehicle.
The company’s interior offers some of the most compelling color combinations, all inspired by nature. The R1T’s tinted-glass panoramic roof gives the cabin a brighter, more airy feel. Upgrade to the Dynamic Glass Roof, and you can choose from a transparent or opaque setting to gain some privacy and more protection from the sun.
Cargo Room and Flexibility

The R1T is a truck, which means it needs to be able to carry plenty of cargo, and it does just that. Starting at the front of the truck, the large front trunk, or frunk, features 9.9 cubic feet of space. It’s large enough to hold a full-size golf bag. When you move inside, the center console features a storage space large enough to hold a small backpack or a large purse. Additionally, the space features a slew of places to stow things that just make sense.
Technically, the truck bed isn’t inside the vehicle; however, it’s 54.1 inches long and 51.1 inches wide, and you can order the R1T with a power tonneau cover that, while not in the cabin, is covered.
