Mazda’s iconic MX-5 once again proved its versatility and charm as it stepped up to participate in the UK’s first-ever unlit night-time track day. Meanwhile, the event, organised by Mission Motorsport – The Forces Motorsport Charity – and Trac Môn Circuit in Anglesey, offered drivers a truly ground-breaking opportunity to tackle a challenging circuit in complete darkness.
Together with around 25 other vehicles, including race cars and modified track toys, the MX-5s from Mazda’s UK press and heritage fleet ultimately showed their mettle on a moonlit January night.

The event wasn’t about competition; it was about embracing the thrill and honing skills. Participants drove the full 2.1-mile International Circuit, which remained dry despite the winter chill. “This first-of-its-kind event offered drivers the rare opportunity to experience night driving on an unlit circuit. It’s something usually reserved for those lucky enough to compete in 24-hour races or our Race of Remembrance.”
It wasn’t just the MX-5s making headlines. Mission Motorsport also showcased their striking Mazda MX-30 R-EV “poppy art car,” a plug-in hybrid that supported safety training for circuit marshals.
