A Boeing Engineer Created This Bizarre Cadillac RV

  • A person wanted to travel in a Cadillac RV so badly that they built their own in their driveway.
  • The resulting project car is a front-wheel drive recreational vehicle with a very luxurious cabin.
  • Priced at $20,000, the mobile home offers a tempting yet risky option for adventurous buyers.

Not long ago, Cadillac teased us with a glimpse of a fully autonomous and electric RV, but don’t hold your breath—we’re still many years away from seeing that reality. And even further away from the day a Boeing engineer decided to build what you’re looking at here. Enter the Cadillac RV. It’s a unique, eccentric travel vehicle that’ll set you back a cool $20,000.

According to the seller in Auburn, Washington, this Cadillac RV is the product of a Boeing engineer and it looks great regardless. Sure, it’s not exactly attractive, but considering that it’s all custom, the build details are quite impressive. The vehicle sports one large front panel that enables engine access, dual windshields, and three Cadillac badges.

Building it atop a 1974 Cadillac Eldorado means that this thing is front-wheel drive with power coming from a massive 500 cu. in. (that’s 8.2-liters) V8. The benefit is that it enables a flat floor with no transmission or driveshaft tunnel. The driver’s seat and front passenger seat are elevated and the rest of the compartment is lower and features Parkay flooring. The RV also has a stove top, two sinks, a dishwasher, and a toilet. All things considered, it’s practically a home on wheels.

Amazingly, this isn’t the only Caddy that’s being converted in such a way. Another person had a similar idea and built a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado into an RV that they called the Star Streak II. It featured the engine from an Oldsmobile Toronado and, like this Cadillac RV in Washington, was front-wheel drive. As of only a few years ago, it was sitting in a museum and not traveling the country.

Let’s refocus on the RV that’s actually up for sale. While it’s true that this vehicle was designed and built by a Boeing engineer—and no, it’s not going to randomly fall from the sky—it’s not without its potential flaws and concerns.

First off, custom-built vehicles are always a bit of a gamble. They can come with some serious safety concerns, especially when every single component was crafted from scratch. Then, let’s not forget that this is based on an older car. So, while it may have been well designed, the reliability of a decades-old vehicle could be questionable.

That said, once you look past these concerns, it’s hard to deny that this RV will certainly draw a crowd wherever you park it. Whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on how comfortable you are being the center of attention.
