Huawei ICT Academy recently hosted a successful instructor workshop, bringing together key instructors and stakeholders from across Kenya. The event provided a platform for knowledge sharing, updates on academy programs, and a roadmap for the future of ICT education in the country.

Ms. Fang Zheng, Huawei’s Human Resource Director, officially opened the workshop, emphasizing the academy’s vital role in addressing Kenya’s ICT skill gaps. She highlighted the importance of continuous professional development for instructors, stating, “We believe in empowering instructors with the tools and knowledge to produce world-class ICT talent. Today’s workshop is a testament to Huawei’s long-term commitment to digital education in Kenya.”

The first session was led by Mr. Michael Kamau, Huawei ICT Academy Manager, and Mr. Yuta Leng, Public Relations Expert. They reviewed the academy’s progress over the past year, focusing on its growth and achievements. They also provided insights into the upcoming Huawei ICT Competition for 2024-2025, which aims to foster innovation and technical skills among Kenyan students. The competition was introduced with an emphasis on preparing participants for the challenges and opportunities in the digital world.

Huawei ICT Competition

Huawei announced that the 9th edition of the Huawei ICT Competition is now open for registration. Interested students can choose to participate in the Practice Track (including Network, Cloud, and Computing) or the A.I Innovation Track. Registered participants will gain access to advanced training and e-learning resources, leading to the National Final in 2024 and the Regional and Global Finals in 2025.

In addition, Huawei introduced the Instructor Competition, designed to promote the integration of key technologies such as A.I. and Cloud into educational practices. This competition aims to set global benchmarks, encourage excellence among partner instructors, and enhance the operation of ICT Academies.

The workshop also featured a review of the academy’s key performance indicators (KPIs) for the last quarter and provided a preview of the upcoming academic year’s calendar. This review was instrumental in assessing the academy’s impact on Kenya’s ICT talent ecosystem and setting clear targets for the future.

A case presentation on best practices for managing professional exam centers was also delivered, focusing on Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP) and Huawei Certified ICT Expert (HCIE) certifications. These globally recognized certifications are critical for advanced ICT careers, and the presentation provided insights into optimizing the exam process, maintaining high standards, and improving student success rates.

Following the presentation, an open discussion allowed attendees to explore ways to enhance the quality of education within the academy.

Huawei’s Commitment to ICT Education

The workshop is part of Huawei’s ongoing commitment to developing ICT education in Kenya. Since launching its first ICT Academy in 2017, Huawei has collaborated with Kenyan academic institutions to build a strong talent pipeline. The program has expanded significantly, training thousands of students and instructors while providing access to Huawei’s cutting-edge technology and global expertise.

The workshop concluded with a call to action for continued collaboration between Huawei and local educational institutions, aiming to create a robust ICT ecosystem in Kenya.
