The redesigned Forester Wilderness costs $2,100 more than its predecessor

Subaru introduced the 2026 Forester Wilderness earlier this year and has now announced pricing will begin at $38,385. That’s an increase of $2,100, but customers will be treated to a significantly improved crossover.
Set to arrive this fall, the redesigned Forester Wilderness combines rugged looks with added capability. As part of the makeover, it has been equipped with a unique front fascia, a revised grille, and skid plates. They’re joined by special fog lights and a matte black hood decal to reduce glare when off-roading.
Off-Road Focus
That’s just scratching the surface as the crossover has been equipped with an off-road focused suspension that provides 9.3 inches (236 mm) of ground clearance, which is 0.6 inches (15 mm) more than the regular model. Buyers will also find 17-inch matte black wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.

Thanks to the changes, the Forester Wilderness has improved approach, departure, and breakover angles of 23.5, 25.5, and 21 degrees. Other highlights include anodized copper accents, a “SUBARU” branded rear bumper, and ladder-style roof rails.
The interior largely carries over, but buyers will find gray StarTex seats with copper contrast stitching and embossed front headrests. They’re joined by unique trim, copper accents, and all-weather floor mats.
Since the model is loosely based on the Premium trim, it should come equipped with a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a wireless smartphone charger. Buyers can also expect an 11.6-inch infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, and a moonroof.
If that isn’t fancy enough, a $2,200 package adds GPS navigation as well as an 11-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. They’re joined by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a power liftgate.
Wider Forester Updates
Besides the Wilderness variant, the 2026 Forester gains a revamped center console with new cup holders that can accommodate 32-ounce water bottles. Other highlights include a larger armrest, a more compact shifter, and a new forward storage area for personal items and phones.
While that’s a minor change, Subaru has held the line on pricing. That’s a rare feat these days, but the model continues to start at $29,995. However, the destination fee has climbed $30 to $1,450.
All models are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine that produces 180 hp (134 kW / 183 PS) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a continuously variable transmission and a standard symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
