- Priced from $88,880 before on-road costs
A flagship sedan has returned to local Volvo showrooms, with the all-electric ES90 now available to order as a successor to the S90 last offered in Australia seven years ago.
Priced from $88,800 before on-road costs, the rear-wheel-drive ES90 Plus falls under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold, undercutting rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan (from $135,200), BMW i5 (from $155,900) and Genesis Electrified G80 (from $155,000).
An ES90 Ultra grade will be offered for $107,990 with more standard equipment, though it retains the 245kW/480Nm rear electric motor from the Plus, with dual-motor all-wheel drive and Performance versions not available at launch in Australia.

When the Volvo S90 was last offered in Australia in 2018 – it has survived overseas with a recent ES90-inspired facelift – it started from $81,400 with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, or around $100,000 when adjusted for inflation.
Standard equipment in the ES90 Plus include 20-inch alloy wheels, a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, and a 9-inch digital instrument cluster.
Other features include a head-up display, four-zone climate control, an air purification system, a humidity sensor, heating for its front and outer rear seats, steering wheel and wiper blades, a digital key, a panoramic sunroof, and a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanner.

The ES90 Ultra adds 21-inch alloy wheels, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio system with Dolby Atmos spatial audio, soft-closing doors, nappa leather upholstery, ventilated and massaging front seats, active air suspension, and high-definition Pixel LED headlights.
Measuring 5000mm long, 2120mm wide and 1546mm tall with a 3102mm wheelbase, the ES90 is 31mm longer, 101mm wider and 106mm taller than the S90 with a 161mm longer wheelbase.
Luggage space is rated at 424 litres, or 733 litres with the split-folding second-row down.

Single-motor rear-wheel-drive versions of the ES90 feature a 92kWh battery pack, rated with a 650-kilometre driving range on the European WLTP lab-test standard.
The 0-100km/h acceleration time is claimed at 6.9 seconds, with a top speed of 180km/h – the maximum speed limit for all Volvo internal-combustion and electric vehicles since 2020.
With an 800-volt electrical architecture – the first Volvo electric car to support this – the ES90 has a peak direct-current (DC) fast-charging rate of 300 kilowatts, for a claimed 20-minute 10 to 80 per cent top-up on a 350kW charger.
The 2026 Volvo ES90 is available to order now in Australia, and follows the local launch of the related EX90 seven-seat SUV earlier this year to join its EX30 and EX40 electric small SUVs.
