• 21-year-old arrested after doing donuts in a Ford Mustang.
  • Police say she tried to hit two motorcycle officers.
  • PIT maneuver and taser used to stop and arrest the suspect.

It’s sadly all too common for people to run from the police. What’s far less common is for a 21-year-old to do it after spinning donuts in the middle of the street at 9:15 in the morning. Nevertheless, that’s exactly what police say Rayne Barbosa did on Thursday.

She also caught a couple of charges for allegedly attempting to hit two motorcycle-riding police officers. A PIT maneuver put an end to her drive.

According to Fresno police, the incident happened just after 9 a.m. Thursday when they heard about a reckless driver in the 2900 block of Hornet near Shields ave. When they arrived on scene, they allegedly found the driver doing donuts in the middle of the road in a Ford Mustang.

Police say they attempted to pull her over but instead she sped away and hit two parked cars in the process. Evidently, she then attempted to hit two motorcycle officers with the Ford. That classifies as assault with a deadly weapon but we’ll return to her charges later. Not long after the incident with the motorcycles, police moved in and used a PIT maneuver to stop the chase.

From Taser to Jail Cell

The fight wasn’t over though as Barbosa allegedly resisted and experienced what a taser feels like as a result. Officers took her into custody and booked her for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, delaying and obstructing officers, and failure to yield, according to YourCentralValley.

The arrest comes as police all over California and the greater US step up enforcement on illegal street racing, side shows, and reckless driving. While much of that focus is on nighttime events, this case stands out for its oddity and brazenness. Thankfully, nobody was hurt during the incident. Barbosa, on the other hand, is facing serious jail time.
