  • GM recalls 2023–2026 Z06 and 2025–2026 ZR1 over fuel filler fire hazard concerns.
  • Dealers placed under stop-sale order while awaiting fix for spilled gasoline issue.
  • Stingray and E-Ray models not affected as recall targets Z06 and ZR1 setup only.

The Corvette Z06 and ZR1 are some of the hottest and fastest Chevrolets ever. Right now, they’re all stalled, though, because General Motors just issued a stop-sale and recall covering 2023-2026 Z06s and 2025-2026 ZR1s. These budget supercars have a potential fire hazard related to the cooling fans and their proximity to the fuel filler.

According to GM, the issue occurs if excess gasoline spills into the filter pocket while refueling. In affected cars, the fan on the left side of the car can potentially waft vapors or droplets of fuel toward an ignition source, namely the engine, thus creating a fire risk. A notice filed under recall number N252514930 leaves no room for misunderstanding: “If fuel contacts an ignition source, there is increased risk of fire.”

Sales on Hold

That means that for now, dealers are under a stop-sale order. Corvette Forum users confirm that dealers are calling, telling them that their cars can’t be delivered until the fix is in place. GM told dealers and customers that, eventually, affected units will get a new insert/shield to divert any spilled fuel, though parts aren’t currently available.

That said, some in the recall population are already out in the real world. To that end, owners are being urged to follow strict refueling practices. They include making sure that the nozzle is fully inserted, shutting off the engine during refueling, and never ‘topping off’ after the pump clicks. That’s a good set of habits in any car, but especially important in this case.

GM’s response

The company issued the following statement to The Drive: “This is a rare occurrence, and malfunctioning filling station pumps appear to be a contributing factor. The safety of our customers is the highest priority for the entire GM team, and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible.”

Notably, the recall and stop-sale has nothing to do with E-Rays and Stingrays. Z51-equipped Stingrays do have fans near the filler, but the setup is different in the ZR1 and Z06.
