Infiniti has rolled out its latest concept, the QX65 Monograph, and it’s impossible not to feel a familiar spark if you were ever wowed by the original FX. That coupe-like roofline that made all of us fall in love is back, now reinterpreted for a modern, two-row midsize crossover.

The FX was something special when it debuted in 2003. Built on a rear-wheel-drive platform and paired with dramatic styling, sharp handling, and family utility, it stood out from the crowd and set a standard for what a sporty luxury crossover could be. It felt like a rare vehicle that offered both driving excitement and practical comfort. And speaking of family vehicles we loved, we at Automotive Addicts used to own a 2009 Infiniti FX50S, which was an absolute beast and easily one of the best family vehicles we’ve ever had.

Fast forward to today, and the QX65 Monograph seems to channel that same fearless spirit. It made its debut at The Quail during Monterey Car Week, bringing back the FX’s signature roofline with a sculpted twist that feels both nostalgic and futuristic. Though it’s based on the transverse-engine QX60 platform, which changes the proportions a bit, the overall silhouette still captures the essence of the original FX.

One of the most striking updates is the grille, which is large and textured, presenting a bold face that draws from Infiniti’s latest design language. The lighting is equally dramatic, with full-width LED elements at the front and rear. The daytime running lights serve as the visual focal point while the actual headlights are tucked lower in the fascia behind a smoked lens, adding a sleek and aggressive touch. The concept wears a matte paint finish called “Twilight,” which shifts in tone depending on the light and adds even more character to its appearance.

Inside, the QX65 is expected to offer only two rows of seating, thanks to its sloping roofline. That places it in the same category as luxury sport crossovers like the Audi Q8, BMW X6, and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. It’s clear Infiniti is aiming for a more style-forward, performance-inspired niche rather than a purely utility-driven vehicle.

What makes the QX65 Monograph even more exciting is how close it seems to production. Infiniti hasn’t officially confirmed it yet, but everything about the concept suggests it’s not far from becoming a reality. The brand has even hinted that more details will be revealed soon, with a clear message to stay tuned for what’s next.

For those of us who remember the FX50S with fondness, this concept feels like more than just a design exercise. It’s a reminder of when Infiniti took bold chances and created something special. With the QX65 Monograph, it looks like they’re ready to do it again.
