(Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) A few weeks back our race weekend was canceled due to rain which left me with a rare free day. So, I jumped in my truck and headed south to Delaware to take in the Goodguys Mid-Atlantic Nationals at Dover Motor Speedway, the famed Monster Mile. The Goodguys Rod and Custom Association has been making east coast inroads for many years, and Dover Speedway is the latest venue to host the party. And it’s a great spot. The expansive infield and paved pit area were loaded with show participants and vendors. Even pit road was lined up with awesome hot rods, muscle and custom cars. The paved roads throughout the facility made for some great cruising action. One of the outer parking lots was set up for the legendary Goodguys Autocross course, and it was hopping all weekend.

My favorite aspects of Goodguys shows are the wide range of years and build styles that really showcase the diversity of the modern-day automotive world. Obviously, pre-49 hot rods were everywhere and later stuff from the 50’s and pre-muscle car area were plentiful. Apparently, the truck segment of the hobby is thankfully not showing any signs of slowing, with a bunch of super sano C10’s and F-Series examples of all years. The Muscle Car crowd showed up en masse, displaying loads of Restos, Pro Touring and Day 2 examples shining in the sun. One section of the show area that I was particularly tickled to see was the Pro Street Rollout area that Goodguys carved out for the Blower and Steamroller fans. Pro Street is decidedly NOT DEAD! Dig into galleries for some badass examples of a genre of build that has grown and evolved with the times but has also kept one Tunnel Ram half firmly in 80’s. Killer stuff.

Go hit up a Goodguys event near you!
