- The Prodrive P25 has a custom-built 2.5-liter turbo four with 440 hp and 457 lb-ft.
- Based on a two-door WRX, the car features lightweight carbon fiber body panels.
- Earlier this month, a silver example failed to sell at a Bonhams auction event.
A rare and meticulously engineered modern homage to one of Subaru’s most iconic performance cars is now commanding nearly seven figures on the used market. The Prodrive P25, a limited-run creation based on the Subaru WRX STI was introduced a few years ago as a contemporary tribute to the legendary 22B.

Watch: Take An In-Depth Look At Prodrive’s Rally-Inspired P25
Only 25 units were ever produced, and one of them has just surfaced for sale with a striking £700,000 price tag (around $934,000). As impressive as the P25 is, that’s a serious amount of coin, and it is a huge premium over the original $560,000 asking price.
What exactly makes the P25 special? Well, like the 22B, it is based on a two-door WRX shell and has been adorned with bespoke carbon fiber body panels, including the hood, roof, and quarter panels. It tips the scales at just 2,645 lbs (1,200 kg), which is less than the original 2,745 lb (1,245 kg) curb weight of the donor car.
Meticulous Engineering Under the Hood
Then there’s the engine. Prodrive blueprinted Subaru’s EJ25 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder and fitted forged pistons, steel con rods, ported cylinder heads, variable cam timing, and a new Garrett turbocharger.
There’s also a custom air intake and an upgraded intercooler. All up, the P25 delivers 440 hp at 6,000 rpm and 457 lb-ft (619 Nm) of torque at 3,000 rpm. Coupled to the engine is a six-speed sequential transmission and an AP Racing two-plate clutch.
Blistering Performance

}
});
Prodrive claims the P25 can launch from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 3 seconds, which is properly quick by any standard. Still, you’d hope it also comes with a built-in money printer at this price, because recent market interest hasn’t exactly been turbocharged.
In February, Bonhams attempted to auction off a P25 that had been driven just 190 miles. The auction house had it expected it to sell for between £475,000 ($635,000) and £575,000 ($769,000). However, it only attracted seven bids, the highest of which was just £350,250 ($468,100), well below the original sticker price and falling short of the reserve.
The example now listed comes from RaceCarsForYou and does hold some additional appeal. Finished in the classic Subaru blue, it’s arguably the most desirable spec, though it has been driven a bit more than the Bonhams car, showing 980 km (609 miles) on the odometer.
Only time will tell if rarity, carbon fiber, and a turbocharged nostalgia trip are all it takes to justify a price tag that’s drifted well into fantasy land.
