Porsche 911 2.7 RS Evocation | PH Auction Block

So Annual Service week is here at last. This Saturday will see thousands of PHers and their vehicles descend on Bicester Heritage for a day of great cars, great chat and great exhibitors. And auctions, too! While we pride ourselves on providing an excellent photography service, nothing beats seeing a car in person. We’d expect plenty to be gathered around this old 911 come Saturday; it’s being auctioned from next Wednesday and boasts a seriously special spec.

While we’ve seen all manner of road racer retro 911s in recent years, this 2.7 RS Evocation really has been treated to almost anything and everything a 911 like this would need. It comes with proper competition provenance, too – a Le Mans finish, no less – to prove this isn’t just another old Porsche with a ducktail and a funky shade for its Fuchs.

Put simply, almost £80,000 has been invested in transforming this car since 2018, clearly a significant amount for a classic restoration that won’t have to be spent by the next owner. Built from a 911 2.4 E, a chunk of the recent cost is accounted for by a 2022 rebuild of the 2.4-litre MFI, along with the 915 gearbox. The engine has recently been fettled again, so ought to be in the rudest of health for road or track driving.

Speaking of which, everything is in place should a new keeper wish to compete with the Carrera. It is registered with the FIA and comes with a host of race bits, including the suspension, seats, and harnesses. Almost £3,000 has just been spent with Centre Gravity, one of dozens of receipts in its history, so the Porsche ought to be driving as well as it looks in any situation. Even if racing at Le Mans Classic might be a step too far for now, it promises to be a real thriller on sprints and hillclimbs.

Despite the competition bent, the 911 presents really nicely. This is very far from the rough and ready track car. The classic bucket seats are smart, as are the door cards; under both bonnets looks very clear and tidy. You wouldn’t be alone in thinking a 50-plus-year-old race car for the road might be looking a bit tired, but quite the opposite here – the Porsche looks ready and raring for whatever adventure is coming next.

With thousands set to see the RS at the weekend, we’d expect a good amount of interest when the auction goes live on the 13th. Don’t forget, too, if the anguish of bidding is too much, you can make an offer up to 48 hours before the car goes under the hammer. Bicester might be the perfect place, in fact…
