Toyota has sold more Corolla cars globally than any automaker has sold of any other vehicle — ever. And just when you thought they couldn’t find a way to develop a new way to move more of them, out came the Corolla Cross subcompact crossover a few years ago.
It’s an attractive first vehicle for young buyers due to its affordability, fuel economy, and utility. It also comes with many of the safety and convenience technologies new buyers want from a car. However, the Corolla Cross sells in three trim levels — L, LE, and XLE — so it can be optioned up to make it more than just “basic” transportation. There is a hybrid version, which we cover separately.
Let’s look at what the 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross offers inside.
Passenger Room and Comfort
The Corolla can carry up to five passengers; however, we recommend keeping it to four people, if possible. Front-seat passengers enjoy a fair bit of space, but once you move into the second row, the 60/40-split rear seat gets a bit cramped, offering just 32 inches of leg room.

Yes, the base model is, well, basic. You’ll get fabric seats, a 6-way manual adjustable driver’s seat, and a 4-way passenger seat to make the ride a bit more pleasant. However, the LE and XLE models offer a few niceties that make the Corolla Cross more inviting, such as a center armrest with two additional cupholders for the second row.
Move up to the top grade, XLE, and you get SofTex-trimmed seats. The driver enjoys a 10-way power seat with lumbar support, and both front seats get heated seats.
Features and Tech
Toyota knows what’s essential to drivers in this segment, and one highly important area is technology. In the Corolla Cross, the advancements begin with the 8-inch touchscreen equipped with the Toyota Audio Multimedia system for all trim levels.

Of course, it comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment. However, buyers looking for a little more from their cabins can opt for an available 9-speaker JBL Premium sound system. Smartphones and other devices can remain charged up using the two front USB Type-C charging ports. The LE and XLE add standard Qi wireless charging up front and two USB charging ports for rear seat passengers, for a total of four charging ports.
With an active Drive Connect subscription, owners gain access to an Intelligent Assistant, which can be voice-activated by uttering “Hey, Toyota.” Additionally, Cloud Navigation and Destination Assist come with the package.
Materials and Design
The Corolla Cross offers a simple, but efficient interior in its base trim, starting with its light gray fabric seats and hard plastics. However, as you move up the trim ranks, there are more options in terms of colors and materials. At the top is the XLE with seats trimmed in SofTex.

An ambient lighting package for the XLE allows for a more upscale feel inside the Corolla Cross.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
In the back, storage space can be maxed out thanks to the 60/40-split folding rear seats that come standard on all grades, while the XLE model also includes a center armrest with two additional cupholders. To make access to the roomy cargo area even more convenient, the Corolla Cross has an available power liftgate with height adjustability.

In all, you’ll get as much as 19.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the second-row seats in place. If you fold the 60/40 seats flat, it expands to give you as much as 46.9 cubic feet, which means a lot of groceries, flats of flowers, or even a couple sets of golf clubs.
