Upgrading the engine, gearbox and All Wheel Drive
There are up to six upgrades in the Polestar Engineered Optimization, which combined will make your car more powerful, dynamic and predictable.
1) More power with increased engine performance
With the Polestar Engineered Optimization, you will get confident acceleration all through the RPMs. Extra power in the mid-range, for instance when overtaking, makes all the difference.
A Polestar Engineered Optimization increases horsepower with a focus on the active driving, mid-range RPM interval, which is around 2 500–5 000 RPM in gasoline models and 2 000–4 000 RPM in diesel. This delivers stronger acceleration and a more powerful overall feel.
2) More power to the ground with faster gear shifts
Instead of experiencing a brief hesitation in the acceleration when your car shifts gear, you will have access to more power, making every millisecond count when you’re driving actively.
Every time a car shifts gear, it disconnects the power from the wheels for a short time. The shorter the time, the more constant the power. The Polestar Engineered Optimization delivers faster gear shifts, resulting in more powerful acceleration.
3) Immediate acceleration with improved off-throttle response
With the Polestar Engineered Optimization your car will accelerate faster when you push the throttle after braking. The engine maintains the optimal gear for the most efficient RPM. This provides faster response and more predictability, allowing you to feel in full control.
In a situation, where you accelerate after braking, e.g. when overtaking multiple vehicles, the Polestar Engineered software anticipates your intention and secures the right gear, with an RPM that reduces turbo lag and generates a quicker response.
4) Increased corner control with precision gear shifting and hold
The Polestar Engineered Optimization secures the correct gear when cornering, allowing the car to maintain tire grip. This both stabilizes the car and ensures the powertrain is ready to accelerate at the corner exit.
Any gear shifting during cornering can unsettle your car. The optimization counters this by holding the optimal gear to maintain a higher RPM, thereby securing tire grip throughout the corner.
5) Quicker reactions with enhanced throttle response
Instead of experiencing a feeling of hesitation from your car when you give it more throttle, an optimized car will feel intuitive and react quicker to what you want to do.
With a Polestar optimization the delay between the throttle input and engine response has been reduced. The engine responds more directly making the car more agile. This will provide confident power and direct acceleration.
6) Improved control with AWD torque distribution
Instead of feeling unbalanced on slippery or winding roads, an optimized car will generate more power to the rear wheels. This provides more balance and predictability when driving actively.
Normally, AWDs apply more power to the front wheels. With the Polestar Engineered Optimization, you get better traction when more torque is distributed to the rear wheels at take-off and cornering.
