Subaru’s EV portfolio is expanding, thanks in part to Toyota.

After a slow start to electric vehicle adoption, Subaru is on a tear. The brand’s first EV, Solterra, gets a significant refresh for 2026, and the new 2026 Trailseeker EV was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April. Now, Subaru is announcing another new EV: Uncharted. While we don’t know everything about this new compact EV, we do have some details.

2026 Subaru Uncharted

Here’s what we know about the 2026 Subaru Uncharted:

More than 300 miles of range

The Subaru Solterra previously got dinged for its subpar 227 miles of range when most consumers clamor for at least 300 miles. Chalk this up to lessons learned, as the 2026 Uncharted will get more than 300 miles of range on its base front-wheel-drive model. The exact number is TBD, but the goal is to top the sweet spot and provide space to roam. The all-wheel-drive models will get up to 290 miles of estimated range.

Uncharted is equipped with a 74.7 kWh battery with a 150-kW max charge speed. It can go from 10-percent to 80-percent of a charge in about 30 minutes, and an onboard battery preconditioning system will help provide optimal charging conditions in all kinds of weather situations.

Tesla charging standard

Subaru, like pretty much every other automaker selling EVs in the U.S., has adopted the North American Charging Standard (NACS) that was pioneered by Tesla. This means the 2026 Uncharted will come with a NACS port, with access to more than 15,000 Tesla Supercharger stations nationwide.

At the time of this writing, no information was available about whether a CCS adapter would be available for purchase to further open up the charging network. However, each vehicle will come with an 11-kW onboard charger to all for at-home charging via 120- or 240-volt power outlets in a garage.

Standard Front-Wheel Drive + 221 Horsepower

For a brand that prides itself on standard AWD, we find it interesting that the 2026 Uncharted comes standard with front-drive. Subaru was very clear, however, that front-drive is only available on the base Premium FWD model and will be available in limited numbers. The uplevel Sport and GT trims will come with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with X-Mode.

The single-motor FWD models will deliver 221 horsepower, while the dual-motor AWD models will deliver 338 horsepower. According to Subaru, this compact crossover targets the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV, which are front-drive-only models with less horsepower and far less range.

A rebadged Toyota C-HR?

Though Subaru didn’t bring it up, it’s obvious that the 2026 Uncharted is going to share components with the upcoming Toyota C-HR EV – just like the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X share components. The two vehicles will share a similar side profile, battery pack, infotainment screen, and range. But Uncharted gets a Subaru-tuned suspension, X-Mode, and the proprietary Symmetrical AWD system. It also will get unique front and rear designs as well as interior styling changes.

What we find curious is that the C-HR will be AWD-only, yet the Uncharted is the one offering a front-wheel-drive option.

Yes, it has CarPlay, + lots of great tech

Subaru hasn’t revealed a lot about what’s powering the 2026 Uncharted infotainment system, but we do know it will get a standard 14-inch touch screen (just like the C-HR) as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If it takes a page from Solterra’s playbook, it will likely utilize Toyota’s infotainment as well. Up front, you’ll see dual wireless chargers, and you’ll have two USB-C ports in the back for rear passengers.

As you would expect from a Subaru, the EyeSight safety suite will be standard, and it includes features such as pre-collision braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. You’ll also see standard features like heated front seats and ambient lighting. Available tech includes a 360-degree camera display, traffic jam assist, heated steering wheel, panoramic roof with a motorized shade, a rear camera mirror, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

Available in early 2026

We don’t have exact details on availability and pricing. Subaru says it will be on sale in “early” 2026, which could mean anywhere from January to April. As far as pricing is concerned, since Uncharted is 7 inches shorter than the Solterra, we can take an educated guess that the pricing will also be less. Base price for the Solterra is currently $38,495. Considering that the 2026 Uncharted takes aim at the Kona EV and Niro EV – priced at $32,975 and $39,600, respectively – we can make a reasonable assumption that pricing will start below $35,000.

More details will likely be available by the end of 2025, closer to the actual launch of the vehicle.
