The Porsche plant in Leipzig celebrated the production of its one-millionth Macan this week, marking a milestone for the compact SUV that has been built there since 2013. In the 2024 financial year, the factory delivered 82,795 Macans to customers worldwide. The model’s success helped transform the former assembly facility into a full-scale factory with its own body shop and paint shop, creating 1,500 new jobs.
Gerd Rupp, chairman of the management board at Porsche Leipzig GmbH, said the Macan “symbolizes both the expansion of the site into a full factory and the start of the plant’s entry into the era of electromobility.” In 2024, Leipzig began series production of the second-generation Macan featuring a fully electric drivetrain, joining combustion and hybrid variants on the same flexible production line.
The one-millionth Macan is a Macan 4 in Frozen Blue Metallic, equipped with a two-tone Black and Chalk leather interior, adaptive sport seats, a heated GT sports leather steering wheel, augmented-reality head-up display, and a panoramic roof. Its 300 kW (408 hp) overboost output propels the SUV from zero-to-62 mph in 5.2 seconds, and it reaches a top speed of 137 mph. A 100 kWh high-voltage battery provides up to 380 miles of range, and 270 kW DC fast charging fills the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 21 minutes on compatible 800-volt chargers.

Cargo capacity in the rear load area offers16.1 to 45.6 cubic feet of storage and a 3.6-cubic-foot illuminated frunk is found under the hood. Standard roof rails support up to 165 pounds, and a braked towing capacity of 3,968 pounds makes the Macan one of the more versatile compact SUVs in its segment.
The anniversary vehicle was handed over at the Porsche Experience Center Leipzig to Stefan Schmidt, a 62-year-old entrepreneur from Kiel. Customers who collect their cars at the factory enjoy a test drive on the on-site racetrack, and Schmidt said he “truly felt the passion of the Porsche brand up close” when driving an identical model around corners inspired by famous circuits.
Leipzig, Porsche’s second manufacturing site since 2002, now employs around 5,000 people to build Macan and Panamera models. The plant has won multiple awards, including the Lean and Green Management Award in 2021 and Factory of the Year in 2023, for its intelligent production and sustainable practices, and it continues to expand with a new body shop and axle production facility.
