JLR has revealed special editions of its flagship Defender OCTA, Range Rover Sport SVandRange Rover SV luxury-performance SUVs, and you can get them in any colour you want – so long as it’s Narvik Black.
All three special-edition SUVs – based on the flagship variants of their respective model ranges – feature interiors and exteriors that are almost completely black. Well, Land Rover couldn’t very well paint the tail-lights…
The two Rangies make their in-person debut at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and will be available to order in Australia later this year, ahead of first local customer deliveries in early 2026, while the Defender OCTA Black is available to order now before deliveries later this year.
Defender OCTA
Priced from $318,800 before on-road costs, the Defender OCTA Black is finished in deep, glossy Narvik Black like the other special-edition SUVs, but with satin black powder-coated front undershield and rear scuff plates, Satin Black exposed recovery eyes, a gloss black tow eye cover at the front, and gloss black quad exhaust outlets.

Even where you’re unlikely to look, Land Rover has gone and painted things black – the cover for the exhaust silencer and centre box, for example, feature a special black finish.
Land Rover is offering the OCTA Black with either 20-inch forged wheels or 22-inch gloss black wheels, with black centre caps and ‘Shadow Atlas’ Defender script.
Behind these sit gloss black brake calipers with contrasting black script. No, just kidding, the script is finished in Sentient Silver, one of the few reprieves from black on the special edition’s exterior.
Land Rover is also offering the OCTA Black with an available matte protective film.
Inside, there’s semi-aniline leather with Kvadrat (textile) upholstery – a first for the Defender.
The Performance Seats up front feature unique perforation patterns and new stitching details on the backrests, while the seat backs and armrest hinges are finished in Carpathian Grey.
Those seats feature new Body and Soul Seats (BASS) technology, which Land Rover says allows those in the front row to feel the music through the seats as well as simply hearing it.
The dashboard features a satin black powder-coated beam, with chopped carbon-fibre trim optional.
Land Rover says it gave the Defender OCTA the Black treatment because so many of its customers love to give their vehicles the blackout treatment anyway, so it allowed its designers to “[apply] this principle to every possible surface inside and out”.
If the Black edition isn’t to your liking, you can get the standard Defender OCTA in a handful of colours including new Sargasso Blue and Borasco Grey finishes. A Patagonia White matte wrap will be available from late 2025.
The special edition benefits from changes made to the Defender lineup for model year 2026 (MY26), including a new 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and revised headlights and tail-lights.
The OCTA sits atop the Defender lineup, featuring a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre mild-hybrid petrol V8 powertrain sourced from BMW, producing 467kW of power and 750Nm of torque.
Range Rover Sport SV Black
The Range Rover Sport SV features the same 4.4-litre V8 as the Defender OCTA, and its special-edition Black treatment is similarly extensive.
Available to order from later this year, ahead of first arrivals expected in early 2026, it’s priced from $335,395 before on-road costs.
Finished in Narvik Black and wearing a Narvik Gloss Black exterior pack, the SV Black also features a black-painted carbon-fibre bonnet.
The forged 23-inch alloy wheels have a gloss black finish, and behind them sit brake calipers with a gloss black finish. The quad exhaust outlets are also finished in, you guessed it, gloss black.
You step on illuminated black tread plates as you enter a cabin featuring Ebony Windsor leather and splashes of Gloss Grand Black trim.
Range Rover SV Black
The flagship of the JLR lineup has also received the Black treatment, and is available to order from late this year and priced from $430,000 before on-road costs.
JLR is offering it with either the standard-length wheelbase and a five-seat configuration, or in long-wheelbase four- or five-seat variants.
All feature the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre mild-hybrid petrol V8 of the other Black editions, but in the Range Rover this produces 452kW and 750Nm.
The Black edition is finished in Narvik Gloss Black, and wears a gloss black mesh grille with a “subtle dark gloss” badge, above which sits gloss black bonnet lettering.
The 23-inch alloy wheels are finished in gloss black, and behind them sit gloss black brake calipers.
Other exterior details include a black ceramic SV roundel at the rear.
Inside, the ‘Near-Aniline’ leather – claimed to be “silky” to the touch – has an Ebony finish, and there are black birch veneers, a satin black ceramic gear shifter, and Moonlight Chrome detailing for a “dark, moody, jewel-like finish to the entire cabin”.
JLR is also introducing Rear Body and Soul Seat and Sensory Floor technology on its flagship long-wheelbase SV models – including the special-edition Black.
The latter sees haptic feedback delivered through the floor mats via four transducers built into the front and rear footwells, creating an “expansive and immersive listening experience, allowing occupants to physically feel the music”.
JLR even encourages you to kick off your shoes to feel the “true full-body audio experience” through the deep-pile carpets, and promises the system offers “precisely synchronised pulsations” harmonised with the RR Meridian Signature Surround System.
The front and rear BASS seats follow the same principle, but involving the seats instead of the floor.
The Black gets front Body and Soul Seats in regular-length guise, with long-wheelbase variants also getting the rear Body and Soul Seats plus the Sensory Floor.
