The 2025 Volvo XC40 is a small luxury crossover SUV and the entry point to the Volvo SUV range. With the name change of the former XC40 Recharge electric vehicle range to the EX40, the 2025 XC40 is now a mild hybrid only. Peppy performance, a user-friendly cabin with plenty of space, and comfortable seating in both rows. Luggage space behind the rear seats isn’t great, falling a bit behind rivals like the Audi Q3 and BMW X1, but the XC40 offers similar total cargo space with the second row folded. If you’re looking for a safe, stylish, capable hybrid luxury crossover that’s not one of the usual suspects, the XC40 may be for you.
Still in its first generation following a midcycle refresh in 2023, the Volvo XC40 first hit the market for the 2018 model year. Now entering its eighth model year on the market, the XC40 range has evolved over the years, previously including the all-electric model mentioned above, as well as a plug-in hybrid variant. Updates for the 2025 model year include power-adjustable headrests as standard equipment across the range.
