“It’s a marathon, not a sprint.” – Aimee Ravichandran
Can you start by introducing yourself and telling us your inspiring story?
Once upon a time (okay, not that long ago), I was working at a small PR firm, juggling press releases, social media campaigns, and dreaming of something… more. I loved the work, but I kept imagining what it would be like to build something of my own, where creativity wasn’t boxed in and authors could truly shine. Enter Sandy: mentor, cheerleader, and all-around powerhouse. She saw that spark in me before I fully did, and one day simply said, “You should start your own thing. And I’ll help.”
So I did.
Abundantly Social was born out of late-night brainstorming sessions, coffee-fueled planning, and a whole lot of heart. I started with social media and PR, but quickly found my niche helping authors build their platforms and bring their books into the spotlight. Years passed, the business grew, and—plot twist!—Sandy and I decided to officially merge our talents. Now, what started as a dream and a nudge is a full-blown author support agency that helps writers reach readers, hit bestseller lists, and feel seen every step of the way.
I owe my start and where I am today to Sandy. If it didn’t push me to start my own business, I don’t know if I ever would have.
How did you market your business when it was brand new?
I was still working at the PR firm at the time, and so Sandy would mention me to her clients, and she is the “Queen of Networking,” let me tell you. You send her an invite to a networking event, and you can bet I was dragged along to also network. She really was the push and support I needed.
What is a typical day like for you?
Hmmm… A typical day for me is client meetings…meeting with our other social media managers…brainstorming on new content ideas…answering emails (though I am not very good at that…texting is much faster for me.) On top of that, I also run my household, take my children to and from school, and other activities…so it’s fun but crazy at the same time.
What are the three most important habits to be a successful entrepreneur?
Passion, Drive, and not taking no for an answer.
If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?
Take the leap..push through the hard times..surround yourself with others that will motivate you.
Every entrepreneur has a goal and a problem they’re trying to solve. What was the inspiration that started your journey?
The lack of attention Indie authors get. Honestly, some of the best books I have read are Indie.
How do you prioritize self-care and well-being while managing the demands of your business?
I only work Monday through Thursday..I take Fridays to get caught up with emails, and then the weekend is for my family.
Can you share some of the most important lessons you’ve learned from your successes and failures in business?
Do not be afraid to fail…failure is how you grow and learn…but also be open to advice from others.
What initiatives or actions do you believe are crucial for fostering a more supportive and inclusive business environment for women?
Being an environment that is supportive of women is very important to me.. I am a business owner is great, but I am also a mother… so we try to make it a family-focused environment.
What advice would you give to a new business owner? Or to your younger self?
Don’t be afraid to take risks and to always have fun!
How do you set your business apart from others in your industry?
To us, our clients are family, not just a client. We strive to give each one a tailored personal experience and make sure that they feel like family.
What social media platform is the best for business growth and why?
That depends… TikTok is great for certain businesses and genres of books. But I will always say Facebook and Instagram just because of their book community on Instagram and the groups on Facebook.
