After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.
This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.
Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 1999, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. Take a trip down memory lane and look at our 1999 magazine covers below, and continue to celebrate our milestone anniversary by buying a copy of our special 40th anniversary edition magazine.

October – Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR
The late 1990s saw Mercedes-Benz pay homage to its earlier racing roots with the Vision SLR concept performance car, the star of the October 1999 cover of duPont REGISTRY, which would go on to be brought to life with the help of the legendary Gordon Murray and Mercedes-Benz’s racing partner at the time, McLaren, in the form of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

After Bentley’s acquisition into the Volkswagen Group, the brand emerged with a supercar concept, as part of the Volkswagen Group’s impending effort at the time to redefine the supercar genre with a groundbreaking hypercar. It was the Porsche that starred on the December 1999 duPont REGISTRY cover.
