2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vs. 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV Comparison

Posted on June 19, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vs. 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV Comparison

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Chevrolet Equinox EV are in a fierce battle for supremacy in a growing class of electric compact SUVs from mainstream brands. There’s a lot that they both do well as SUVs, and we’d still love them both if they had gas engines. But they’re also excellent EVs (electric vehicles) with impressive range and charge times.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Chevy Equinox EV are evenly matched in many ways, but which one is better? Let’s take a closer look and find out.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vs. 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV Comparison

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a KBB Best Buy Award winner for its attractive blend of daily practicality, excellent electric powertrains, class-leading warranty coverage, and aesthetics that still look futuristic in its fourth model year. It’s also one of the fastest-charging EVs in its class and offers a nice variety in its model range.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Highlights

Faster charging: The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a maximum DC Fast Charging rate of up to 350 kW, beating the Equinox EV’s 150 kW rate. The result is a charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 18 minutes. The Ioniq 5 also has a native NACS charge port, meaning it can use Tesla charging stations without an adapter.

Better warranty: The Hyundai Ioniq 5 boasts class-leading warranty coverage. It’s backed by the Hyundai 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, adding peace of mind to the EV ownership experience.

Exciting N model: The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N isn’t just one of our favorite sporty EVs, it’s one of our favorite performance cars, period. This absolutely thrilling performance SUV hustles around the track and even vibrates and “shifts” to simulate a gas-powered sports car. The Equinox EV lineup has nothing like this.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV

2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV

The Chevy Equinox EV is GM’s entry-level electric vehicle in North America. It’s a compact SUV with affordable pricing, a 300+-mile range in every trim, and the latest tech features, including optional hands-free highway driving. The Equinox EV isn’t just a great EV; it’s a great compact SUV overall.

More affordable: Starting at just under $35k before any incentives kick in, the Chevy Equinox EV has a considerably lower starting price than the Hyundai Ioniq 5. This attractive starting price makes the Equinox EV one of the best values in electric vehicles.

Super Cruise: The Chevy Equinox EV is available with GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. Super Cruise allows for hands-free driving on over 750,000 miles of North American highways. Hyundai has no such hands-free system.

Better range: The max range of the Chevy is only one mile higher than that of the Hyundai, but it’s worth noting that every configuration of the Equinox EV gets more than 300 miles of range on a full charge. Meanwhile, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model with the long-range battery is the only Ioniq 5 that crosses the 300-mile mark.

Conclusion

These two are pretty evenly matched. The Equinox EV is the one to get if you want the lowest price, the highest range, or hands-free highway driving. However, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has the native NACS charge port, faster charging, more variety in its lineup with the rugged XRT and thrilling N models, and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, which most GM EVs don’t have. These advantages are what make the Ioniq 5 our favorite electric compact SUV.
