Grant Stahla, Co-owner of Stahla Services, a nationwide provider of restroom, shower, and ADA trailer rentals again joins Enterprise Radio.
On this episode, the focus will be on the 3 Stall Combo Restroom & Shower Trailer, all the benefits and the specifics of renting this particular trailer for your needs.
Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Grant Stahla discuss the following:
(Host Eric Dye): Grant, who’s reaching for this trailer? Can you share the kinds of situations it’s built for and how you figure out if it’s got enough capacity for, say, a big event or a work crew?”
(Guest Grant Stahla): Yeah, you bet. Excited to talk about the the three stall combo trailer so it’s kind of a hard trailer to to describe because it’s like the name says it has 3 individual stalls and then it’s a restroom. So there’s a toilet in each stall and a shower. So really, when you’re thinking about this restroom trailer and shower trailer, it’s one that’s most like your bathroom at home. There’s a lot of bathrooms that just have the toilet, sink and shower and then they call them a three quarter bath. But but this trailer has the three individual rooms with three of those, so we’re bringing a lot of these trailers to, when they remodel, like a golf course clubhouse and they need to be able to wash their hands and shower and change and we’ll bring out this trailer and they’ll be able to keep that clubhouse going even during a remodel or when there’s emergency water main break or something like that. We also bring them for camp sites or when they bring in a bunch of campers to any sort of remote facility or location and they don’t have access to showers there. We’ll bring out this sound restroom trailer and be able to support some people and just a really good trailer for when you need to be able to use the restroom and take a shower and get freshened up and you don’t have a lot of people there.
(Host Eric Dye): What’s a memorable story of this trailer in action? Maybe a festival, a tough job site, or something unexpected?
(Guest Grant Stahla): Yeah, well, some of my favorites at a campsite were able to support, like, the Boy Scouts of America rented a 3 stall combo trailer one year and they had a couple troops of campers come out and the campsite didn’t have enough showers. So we were able to bring out this trailer and help to supplement their experience so they could they could have a great time with their troop, and not have to worry about showers.
(Host Eric Dye): Can you break down the cost of getting this trailer? What’s renting it look like—daily, weekly, or long-term—and what about buying one outright?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : You bet, yeah. Happy to talk about that. So I can run down the rental prices and then we can talk about some of the additional add on costs or new purchase price. So to rent the three cell combo, you’re gonna be looking for a weekly cost about $6800, for a 28 day rate, you’re looking at about $9700. And then if you need it for between two months or five months, you’re looking at $7600 per month. Or if you need it for six months plus you’re at $6300 per month and then a year and a half or more, you’re about $5500 per month. And then for that new purchase price, typically it’s gonna be the same cost as a rental between a year and a half and two years of rental. So really, if you have a project that’s two or three years, sometimes it makes sense to purchase the trailer. But then you’re gonna have to manage the asset deal with if there’s any waste tank problems or toilet problems or air conditioner problems, you’re the one that’s fixing it. Otherwise, you can just rent it if you’re more of an asset light business model and a company like Stahla Services or a rental company can come and help you out. The new purchase price is about $80,000 to buy one new, depending on some of the options and some of the people that make the manufacturers that make these. Satellite Suites make some, Jag Mobile Solutions makes them. Lang makes them, UltraLav, Black Tie, Ameri-can Engineering are some of the manufacturers that make this combo trailer. That’s some of the breakdown of the rental and the purchase costs. The add-ons so you, the waste tank pump outs, you’re looking at about $350 to $500 per pump out of the waste tank. The transport costs you’re about $3 to $5 per loaded mile, so that’s one trip there and back. Usually is the loaded miles. Additional cleaning and restocking you’re looking at about $250 to $300.00 per clean and restock the whole trailer. Generate a rental if it’s a weekend deal it’s $300 or 400 bucks. If it’s monthly, you’re about $1500 to $2500. It’s gonna be a total 20 to 30 kilowatt generator and then fresh water tank fill, you’re about $200.00 to fill that intern water tank. So that’s the overview of some of the additional costs and then also cover the rental price and the ownership cost and some of the distinguishers between buying and renting.
(Host Eric Dye) : Paint us a picture of this trailer’s design. What do you see walking up to it, and what’s the experience like stepping inside?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : You bet. Yes, I mentioned at the beginning there are three individual stalls. So you’re gonna have 3 doors. It’s gonna be on the passenger side if you’re imagining it like a car passenger side or the three doors on the backside or the driver side is the mechanical room that houses all the electrical and the plumbing and anything you need to work on the trailer. Inside of these stalls, like I mentioned, there’s a toilet. There’s a small sink and there’s a shower. The shower is usually about 42 by 36 is the size 42 inches by 36 inches, and sometimes there’s a little sliding door that you can pull to make it so that’s the showers can be removed from use and you can lock it, or you can make it so they’re open all the time, but it’s an individual room, so there’s only one occupant per room at a time. So it makes it really nice and private experience. The length of the trailer is about 19 feet and then with the tongues about 23 feet, the width is about 6 1/2 feet. And with the steps down, it’s about 9 1/2 feet their individual steps. So you just pull one, one step catch and it’ll drop down. And they’re very simple to set up. The height of the trailer is about 11 1/2 feet with the air conditioner unit. Fresh water tank is 200 gallons, so it’s a bigger fresh water tank to be able to support the showers. And usually there’s a heavier duty, faster flow water pump in there to be able to support the showers and waste tank 600 gallon waste tank, the weight of the trailer is about 7000 lbs. And there’s generally 2 axles on this trailer, or I’m sorry, there’s one axle. And it’s a 8000 lb axle, usually, so there’s about 1000 lbs of margin there. That’s some of the design inspect layouts with the interior and exterior.
(Host Eric Dye) : What does it take to keep this trailer running smoothly? Can you walk us through its water, power, and transport requirements?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, you bet. So I mentioned earlier, it’s 200 gallon fresh water tank, 600 gallon wastewater tank. The water fresh water pump is going to be a little bigger with those showers and all the plumbing’s going to be in that mechanical room on the driver side of the trailer. The electrical, it’s going to be two connections to 110 Volt, 15 amp, sometimes three connections, depending on the trailer manufacturer. And that’s gonna be in the summer. In the winter, generally it’s gonna be 4 connections, 210 Volt, 15 amp to be able to power the electric wall heater as well. It’s a little bit less in the summer because it’s only one air conditioner unit that is powering. The generator for a weekend event, you’re just gonna need a 7000 kilowatt or 7000 Watt generator and then for a long term use, you’re gonna be a 20 kilowatt to a 30 kilowatt towable generator, since it’s gonna be running generally 24/7. For towing, like I said, it’s a 7000 pound trailer, so you can tow a three quarter ton pick up. You might be able to get by with a half ton pick up and like I mentioned earlier, the setup of the steps are fairly simple. It’s just a a full down step for each of the three doors and they’re they’re fast set up, so it’ll take about 20 minutes to 30 minutes to set up the entire trailer, barring any power or water that’s far away. And these trailers are built by pretty much all of the manufacturers; Satellite Suites, Jag Mobile Solutions, Lang, UltraLav, Black Tie, Ameri-can Engineering, so you’re going to be able to buy this trailer from all the major manufacturers that the three stall combinations are pretty common size. So that’s an overview of some of the technical details, the plumbing, electrical transport. Threw a lot of information at ya. But wanted to kind of give you a full experience of what that three stall combo restroom and shower trailer is.
(Host Eric Dye) : Grant, if listeners need to remember just one thing about this trailer, what should it be?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah. Oh, man. When you need to shower if you’re feeling hot, sweaty and stinky, maybe a 3 stall combo trailer is for you.
