The Nissan Micra is back, and it has been born again as an electric hatchback with SUV styling.
Revealed in sixth-generation form, the new Micra will go on sale in Europe in late 2025, but the bad news is it’s unlikely to come to Australia.
The Micra is among four new electric models Nissan will launch in Europe by 2027 as part of its electrification push, with the others being the next-generation Leaf, Juke, and an as-yet unnamed A-segment model (micro car).

Nissan claims the Micra boasts a “refreshed and distinctive new exterior look”, giving it an “SUV-like design” that is “simple and uncluttered”. However, it’s closely related to the Renault 5 E-Tech, albeit with distinctive round lighting elements front and rear.
It’ll be offered in 14 exterior paint colours, with two-tone colour options offering the choice of a black or grey roof. And 18-inch wheels will be standard.
Like the Renault 5, the Micra is based on the AmpR Small electric vehicle (EV) platform. It features strut front and multi-link rear suspension.
Nissan says the Micra measures less than 4.0 metres long and 1.8m wide, with a wheelbase of 2.54m. That makes it roughly the same size as the previous (K14) Micra, which ended production in 2023 but wasn’t sold in Australia.
It’ll be offered only as a five-door hatchback weighing 1400kg, or 1524kg with and extended-range battery.

The Micra’s regenerative braking system can be adjusted using paddles behind the steering wheel, while there’s also Nissan’s e-Pedal system which allows for one-pedal driving.
A heat pump is standard, while the electric hatch also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology which allows owners to use the battery to power external electrical devices and appliances.
The Micra’s cabin is essentially identical to the Renault 5’s, and features a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in.
This features a range of embedded Google apps, with more apps downloadable via the Google Play Store, while the infotainment system also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There’s 48-colour ambient lighting in the cabin, while the Micra also features ‘Easter eggs’ including an outline of Mount Fuji in the storage space between the front seats.
Down back, there’s 326 litres of boot space, expanding to 1106L by dropping the 60:40-split folding rear seats.
There’s a full suite of active safety and driver assist technology on offer, including autonomous emergency braking (forward and reverse), blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitoring, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning.
In March, Nissan released teasers of future products for various markets, with the Micra mentioned as an upcoming model for Europe but not mentioned for Australia.
Nissan confirmed five models for Australian release by March 2027: the Leaf and Ariya electric SUVs, as well as the next-generation Navara ute, Patrol off-road SUV, and Qashqai e-Power small SUV.
