Kia is Considering Tasman Hybrid and EV Variants

Posted on May 16, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Kia is Considering Tasman Hybrid and EV Variants

Kia has officially confirmed plans to expand the Tasman lineup with hybrid and fully electric variants, underscoring its long-term commitment to electrification and innovation in the utility vehicle segment.

Modular Platform Paves the Way for Electrification

At the heart of the Tasman’s versatility is its ladder frame chassis, a modular platform that’s designed to support a wide range of powertrain options. In a recent interview with CarExpert, Roland Libero, General Manager of Product Planning at Kia Australia, explained, “Tasman’s Ladder Frame Chassis is a modular platform that allows you to accommodate a variety of powertrains. We are actively considering hybrid and pure electric vehicle models.”

This adaptability positions the Tasman for a market life of 8 to 12 years, giving Kia the ability to roll out incremental updates and integrate future technologies as the automotive landscape evolves.

Hybrid and Electric Kia Tasman Variants Confirmed

Kia’s confirmation of electrified Tasman variants marks a pivotal shift in the global pickup truck landscape. While early Tasman models will include a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, future versions will feature a hybrid drivetrain, blending fuel efficiency with robust performance. The hybrid system will deliver strong torque—essential for utility and towing—while significantly reducing emissions and improving fuel economy.

Even more exciting is the prospect of a fully electric Kia Tasman. Industry speculation suggests the electric version will employ a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, offering instant acceleration, quiet operation, and enhanced off-road capabilities. With this move, Kia aims to set a new benchmark in the premium electric pickup segment.

Tasmann Weekenzer Concept: A Glimpse of the Future

Kia recently unveiled the Tasman Weekenzer Concept at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, offering a preview of the brand’s rugged design ambitions. Featuring wider fenders, a more aggressive hood, and off-road tires, the concept signals Kia’s intent to tap into the adventure lifestyle market and hints at potential styling cues for future electrified Tasman variants.

Kia’s Strategic Global Play

By accelerating its electrification roadmap, Kia is positioning the Tasman as a disruptive force in the pickup truck market. While many legacy automakers are still developing their EV strategies, Kia is seizing the moment to lead in an emerging category. This move reflects the Korean automaker’s bold vision and commitment to sustainability, innovation, and customer-centric design.
