Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius has confirmed that the new Mercedes GLC EV electric SUV will be exhibited in a world premiere at the IAA Mobility 2025, to be held on September 9-14, 2025.
At the conference to announce the first quarter 2025 financial results on April 30, 2025, Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius confirmed that the new electric SUV Mercedes GLC EV will be shown in a world premiere at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich taking place September 9-14, 2025. As announced here, Mercedes will present 12 new models and 8 facelifts over the next two years.
Thanks to a new organizational concept with stands set up in the city, the IAA Mobility Show in Munich has once again managed to capture the attention of people and car manufacturers for motor shows. So there will be plenty to see in the Bavarian capital. It is interesting to note that alongside the Mercedes GLC EV, the new BMW iX3, the SUV built on the new Neue Klasse architecture, which succeeds the current iX3, will be on show for the first time. The BMW iX3 and Mercedes GLC EV are direct rivals to the Tesla Model Y, the best-selling electric model globally in 2024.
The Mercedes GLC EV is Mercedes’ second major electric debut in 2025 after the Mercedes CLA EV. With these two models, Mercedes hopes to increase sales of electric models, which accounted for only 9.1% of total sales in the first quarter of 2025.The Mercedes CLA EV and GLC EV are built on different platforms but both offer 800V technology and up to 320 kW of charging power. The Mercedes CLA EV is based on the MMA multi-propulsion platform, while the GLC EV is based on the dedicated MB.EA electric platform, on which the Mercedes C-Class EV limousine will be developed in 2026.
Like the Mercedes CLA EV, the Mercedes GLC EV will feature single- and twin-motor versions with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, a two-speed gearbox on the rear axle motor, a silicon inverter, and an integrated braking system to eliminate brake pedal feel differences when switching from regenerative to mechanical braking.
Mercedes is planning to introduce a new battery chemistry for the new GLC EV with a higher silicon content in the anode that will increase energy density. As with the CLA EV, there will be batteries with multiple chemistries, but there will probably be no cheap iron phosphate version. The CLA EV has a 58 kWh iron phosphate battery and an 85 kWh Li-Ion battery.
