Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 Highlights

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 Highlights

Posted on May 3, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 Highlights

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark event. Motorsport fans are in for a real treat, as four-time Formula 1 World Champion Alain Prost will make a special appearance. The Festival, presented by Mastercard, will be the stage for the world’s biggest celebration of 75 years of the Formula 1 World Championship.

And it doesn’t stop there. 2025 also marks two personal milestones for Prost: his 70th birthday and the 40th anniversary of his first World Championship title.

A Special Year for Alain Prost

1. Alain Prost

Alain Prost, affectionately known as “The Professor” for his tactical brilliance on track, remains one of the most admired figures in Formula 1 history. Throughout his glittering career, Prost claimed four World Championships — three with McLaren in 1985, 1986, and 1989. He won another with Williams in 1993.

His 51 Grand Prix victories, a record at the time of his retirement, highlight his dominance during Formula 1’s golden era. Some might argue that, without a string of mechanical failures and bad luck, he could have secured even more titles. This is especially true in 1982, 1983, 1984, and the dramatic 1988 season.

Incredibly, Prost actually scored more points than Ayrton Senna in 1988 (105 to Senna’s 94). However, he missed out on the title due to a rule that only counted a driver’s best 11 results.

Historic McLarens and Iconic Moments

To celebrate his achievements, Goodwood has chosen Prost’s 1985 McLaren MP4/2B as the Festival’s official poster car. Visitors will have the rare chance to see Prost drive this historic machine up the famous Goodwood Hill.

As a further highlight, Prost will also get behind the wheel of the McLaren-Honda MP4/4 from the unforgettable 1988 season. Courtesy of Audrain Motorsport, this very chassis carried Prost to victories in Mexico, Monaco, and France. Expect some unforgettable moments as Prost relives his glory days.

Alain Prost Returns to Goodwood

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 Highlights

This will be Prost’s third appearance at Goodwood Festival of Speed, following previous visits in 2012 and 2013. He will be attending on Saturday and Sunday, adding extra star power to an already spectacular weekend.

Speaking about the event, Prost said:
“The Festival of Speed is a wonderful place to experience the culture and tradition of motorsport and the full history of motor racing. I can think of no better place to celebrate 75 years of the Formula 1 World Championship and two very significant landmarks in my own life.”

The Duke of Richmond CBE DL shared his excitement, adding:
“I am absolutely thrilled that Alain is returning to the Festival of Speed. No celebration of Formula 1 would be complete without him. It will be great to see him back behind the wheel of at least two of his most iconic cars.”
